Park District helps fill idle summer With the weather finally getting warmer and the days getting longer, people will be looking for outdoor activities to spend their spare time and energy . And their search will be short, because the Dundee Township Park District has scheduled many summer events for the en tire family. For children, the park district offers several day camps to fill up idle summer days when school recesses. The camp for children in kindergarten through sixth grade is called the Adven ture Centers. Parents can choose whether they want their children to attend morning or afternoon sessions. The morning session is held at the Besinger Center from 9 a.m. until noon and the afternoon session is held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Sleepy Hollow. Sessions for the Adventure Centers will be held from June 17 until June 28, and the fee is $16 for residents and $24 for non residents. . For children 6 years of age and older the park district offers a special recreation camp at the Besinger Center beginning Ju ly 8 to Aug. 16. The camp is designed for children with special physical, emotional or educational needs. Trained counselors will lead games, special events and oversee arts and craft projects. The camp will be held Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a fee of $5. For children in the first to the fifth grades Camp Randall Oaks will be held in two sessions from July 1 to July 19 and Ju ly 22 to Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Campers will meet at Randall Oaks Park on Randall Road. Transportation will be provided for a fee. The cost for the first session of the camp is $56 and the second session is $60. The events children will be involved with include swimming, special events and con tests, arts and crafts, sports and field trips. The park district will be offering swim ming lessons for children tts young as six months old to adults for beginning swim mers to intermediate swimmers. The first of the four sessions begins June 17. All the lessons will be taught using the Red Cross safety guidelines. The fees for the lessons are $11 for begin ning, advanced beginning and in termediate swimmers, and $13 for tiny tots. The park district operates three outdoor pools during the summer. They are the Haeger Memorial Pool on Route 68 in East Dundee, the Thresher Pool on Besinger Drive in Carpentersville and the Sleepy Hollow Pool on Winmore Drive. All pools open June 8. Other lessons and activities the park disrict offers include tennis lessons, begin ning June 17; horseback riding, starting June 18; fishing, starting June 18; tee ball, June 17; co-recreational softball, starting June 7; girls traveling softball, time still has to be announced; gymnastics and tumbling, starting June 17; karate for kids and adults, beginning June 19 for the kids, and June 22 for beginners. Classes will also be held for dancing, fitness, weight training, soccer and swim- nastics.
