ByMikeDominick In commemoration of the 20th anniver sary of the Huntley Park District, the first annual Huntley town picnic will be held on June 9. The picnic which is scheduled to begin at noon, will be highlighted by the Miss Huntley Pageant. All residents who at tend the picnic will have a chance to make their own choices as to who they would pick to be Miss Huntley 1985. The picnic, though, will be focused toward the family and togetherness. There will be many games and prizes for the entire family to participate in. Some of the events of the day will be relay races and treasure hunts. The park district is hopeful that local businesses from Huntley will each spon sor a game and prizes, so community in volvement is prevalent. If each business in Huntley sponsors a game, the picnic will be an event to remember. Families should make their plans now to attend. They should arrive at the pic nic as soon as possible to get a good seat under a shade tree. The park district is also open to any suggestions you might have to make the picnic the best it can be. The Miniature Boat Regatta will also be returning to Huntley in June. For those residents who don't know what a Miniature Boat Regatta is, it is a time for the youngsters to use their skills and im agination to design a boat that really floats. Kids make their own boats. They design them any way they see fit, and then compete in races on the Deicke Park pond. Prizes are given for the best designed boat, the best built boat, the fastest boat, and also for many other things that have to do with boats. This is a good chance for kids of all ages to show what they can do. Who knows, maybe there is a future boat builder in Huntley. The Kennel Ration Dog Show will also be making a return appearance in June. This event, for children ages 4 to 14, gives the kids a chance to show off their dogs. The dogs may not think much about this show, but the kids really seem to enjoy it. Dogs will be graded on everything from appearance to obedience. Most of the kids will attempt to make their dogs do things that they are incapable of doing and this makes for a very interesting show. Superstars Day comes back to Huntley in July, with kids of all ages participating in events that will bring out their athletic abilities. Kids will participate in events such as a shotput throw using a softball in place of the shotput. There will also be the ever- famous Frisbee throw for kids with superior wrist action. Superstars Day is shaping up to a day the kids will remember for a long time. Preschool kids can take heart as tlje Big Wheel races return to Huntley in Ju ly. All residents should stay clear when they see the preschoolers rolling down the street in their Big Wheels. All children, ages 3 to 6, are invited to par ticipate in the Big Wheel races for valuable prizes. Last year, all that could be heard for miles in Huntley was rolling Big Wheel thunder. For the second year in a row, the gruel ing Tennis Tournament will again 6e played in July. This tournament is Huntley's answer to Wimbledon. The tournament is open to all age groups, but last year only the adults had the guts to compete. This tournament is not for the weak-hearted as many of the matches go right down to the wire. ^ Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe better stay clear of Huntley in July unless they would care to play some of the toughest tennis players in the world. In August, all of you people who don't have a birthday coming up, will enjoy the unbirthday party. This party is designed for anyone who is not celebrating a birth day. Last year, the unbirthday party was the highlight of Huntley's social season, and this year should be no different. There will be games and prizes for all of you not celebrating a birthday. This is one birthday party you won't want to miss, as it always proves to be a good time for all who attend. Wayne Blake, the renowned magician from Huntley, will be holding classes for the kids this year that should bring together some of the best creative minds in the world. Blake will begin a TV production class this year in which he will teach kids, ages 12 to 16, about lighting, cameras, produc tion and other aspects which go along with putting on a show.
