They constructed a set of bleachers in side a barn and also built a small wooden ticket booth. The crowds grew in size as the popularity of stock car racing gained momentum. In 1973, opening day, Carol Fabrizius (Joe's wife) said they had 43 cents to their name. If the Speedway didn't make it, they did not know where the next groceries would come from. But that opening night brought in over 840 adults and 125 children. They have never looked back. This season they expect between 1500- 2000 every Saturday night. New steel frame bleachers have replaced the old wooden ones. A large two story building has been built to han dle the ticket sales and offices. There are two concession stands to feed the hungry crowds, offering a fanfare of hot dogs, popcorn, beer and pop. They also have a T-shirt concession. There is also a staff photographer to record all racing events. Today drivers come from within a 70- mile radius of the track and with them, they bring their own cheering sections. The races with the big prize money will draw racers in from over 400 miles away. The Speedway continues to be a family affair. Ruth Fabrizius, Nick's wife, is bookkeeper for the operation and also runs one ticket window.
