All month in June: Dundee's special sesquicentennial celebration By Alex Rodriguez Herald staff writer Those lazy, hazy days of summer are just around the corner, but summer in Dundee Township this year promises to be a bit more special than usual. The township is commemorating its 150th birthday with a year-round celebra tion organized by the Dundee Ses quicentennial Jubilee Comittee. Everything from a summer parade to an evening of music and fireworks to the renovation of an old East Dundee train depot are being planned. Sesquicentennial activities have picked up in the last two months. More residents are pledging time and money to the organizing committee, according to com mittee chairman Ginny Buhrmann. A chili supper fundraiser held in March raised $775 for the committee, and more fundraising efforts are being planned in May and June. - In addition, the villages of East Dundee and West Dundee have pledged $3,000 and $2,000 respectively from federal revenue sharing funds. The committee is still waiting on Carpentersville's answer to their $2,000 request. Sleepy Hollow has put $500 toward the printing of "The Romance of Dundee Township," a history of the township writ ten by historian Irma Dupre and reprinted as part of the sesquicentennial celebra tion. HERE IS A calendar of upcoming ses quicentennial activities: •June 1 -- The committee will hold a Steak Fry at 6:30 p.m. at the West Dundee VFW Post 2298,117 S. First St. Donation is $10. • June 24 - The Anvil Club in East Dundee will be open for cocktails as part of the fundraising effort by the committee. The breakfast will be held at Carpenter Park in Carpentersville and will end at noon. Then, beginning at noon, bratwursts and hot dogs will be sold by the Old Town Association of Carpentersville. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Americana Day will be held. Residents can get a glimpse of the Fox Valley during Pioneer Days. One of the new attractions to Americana Day will be "Whiskerino," where prizes will be awarded to the longest beard, longest moustache, uniqueness of facial hair, and other categories. The day will culminate with a fireworks display accompanied by the 97-piece Palatine Concert Band. • June 30 - An auction will be held at noon at Tower Park in West Dundee. Then at 2 p.m., the Sesquicentennial Parade will march down Main Street through West and East Dundee and ending up in Carpentersville. Marching bands of the "Imperial Scots Tattoo" will be featured.
