There's * pool nearby... Herald staff writer With the imminent return of hot summer days, persons will no doubt be looking for­ ward to getting back "into the swim" of things. Luckily, Elgin-area communities offer a number of pools that will give residents a chance to get wet, workout or waterproof the youngsters. All pools listed are regularly maintained and staffed with certified lifeguards dur­ ing their operating hours. Each will offei lessons for swimmers of all types and ages in several sessions throughout the sum­ mer. The Dundee Township Park District operates three pools -- Haeger Memorial in East Dundee, Thresher Memorial in Carpentersville and Sleepy Hollow Pool in Sleepy Hollow. All will open June 8 and operate until Aug. 26. Sleepy Hollow, however, will close on Aug. 11 for renova­ tions. The 1985 Pool Pass Fees are as follows: Individual membership $21; Family of two, $33; Family of three; $45, with 50 cents additional per person for over three in the same family. Non-residents pay 50 percent more for passes. DTPD swimming lessons will consist of four two-week sessions throughout the summer. Daily rates for the pool are as follows: 18 year and older, $3.50; high school students, $3; kids eight years to 12, $2.50; children under eight, $1. The city of Elgin has two pools, one in Lords Park and the other in Wing Park. Both are 50 yards long, and will be open from June 8 to Aug. 25. They will also be open the weekend of Aug. 31-Sept. 2. The pools will be open daily from 1 to 8 p.m. Besides recreational swimming, the two pools will also be offering three two-week swim lesson sessions. Water park opening Memorial Bay Racing Rapids Action Park, the latest thing in water parks, plans to open Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 25, Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27. The park features two of the largest, free-standing waterslides in the Chicagoland area. The park also features a smaller slide for children, formula 1000 racer go-carts and wet 'n wild bumper boats. What's new in 1985? Lower prices on the waterslides. Now, guests can slide all day for $4.50. Also, the 7-trip waterslide ticket was lowered from $3.50 to $3. Admission to Racing Rapids is free with each attraction priced individually. Parking is free. Racing Rapids is on Route 72 at Route 25, adjacent to Santa's Village theme park.
