Language enrichment classes to begin Language enrichme'nt classes will begin June 17 at the Easter Seal Society for McHenry County for children who are having problelhs with language development. The eight-week program will be offered for children ages two to three and four to five through August 9. Classes will be held in the morning twice weekly for one hour. The program is designed to provide children with experiences that will en courage growth of expressive and receptive language skills. Group activities with three to five children per group have been created to stimulate overall language growth. Classes will be taught by a speech pathologist. Speech pathologist Lori Schairer stressed the - im portance of a language enrich ment program for children. "Since a child's learning is based on his language skills, there may be problems with learning if these skills are not properly developed," she said. "During the summer session we will be- doing a lot more language activities outside to promote understanding of language concepts dealing with the outdpors." Parents are encouraged to enroll their children early so they may be assured of getting a placement by calling Easter Year Round Fun! Island Lake Pre-School •SUMMER CAMP- Year Round Fun! The drive is held in the parking lot of the McHenry Community High School West Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road, McHenry, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Birthright is an international, interdenominational, non-profit organization which provides free and confidential assistance to women with problem pregnancies. While the parent organization was formed in the early sixties, the local chapter was not begun until 1977. It is staffed entirely by volunteers with no governmental financial assistance. The group provides in case of need, such services as pregnancy testing, clothing for mother-to-be and-or child, baby equipment, etc. They also work closely with other community agencies. Both medical and legal services, when necessary, can be obtained through Bir thright. Birthright has an office in ^Whispering Oaks Center. The phone, (815) 385-2999, is an swered 24 hours a day, either by a trained volunteer or an an swering machine. According to Sue Grant, chairman of the Fund Raising Committee, the service all cost money; their share of the proceeds from the recycling drive will be used to offset some of those expenses. Items which can be brought to the drive include newspapers with no magazines or junk mail included, glass containers with all plastic and metal removed, "tin" cans rinsed and flattened, aluminum scrap of all kinds, used motor oil, and brown paper bags and cardboard in * manageable bundles. Participants may sell their 100 percent aluminum cans to the Defenders at the current market price. There is a two cents per pound bonus if the cans are crushed and an additional two cents per pound bonus for lots of more than 100 pounds. Another opportunity to sell aluminum cans, glass con tainers and newspapers is available to area recyclers on the second Thursday of each month (June 13) from 9 a.m. to noon in the area behind McHenry Quick Oil Change at 4002 W.
