A 10K road race and a two-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m. with check-in and registration starting at 7:15 a.m. T-shirts will be given to all runners and 10 other prizes will be awarded at random. A trophy will be presented to the first male and first female finisher in the 10K race, and medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each of nine age brackets. Ribbons will be awarded to the first three finishers in each age group of the two-mile fun run. ** The public pool at Knox Park will be open to all runners at the con­ clusion of the race for a fee of $1. Entry fees are $8 for the 10K race, and $7 for the fun run for those registering prior to June 20. After that date, the fees are $9 and $8, respectively. Kids' fishing derby set Bring your own pole and test your skills as a fisherman. All area children 15 years old and under, are encouraged to enter the annual Fishing Derby, sponsored by the City of McHenry Parks and Recreation Department. The contest will be held on Saturday, June 8, at the Petersen Park Beach. Casting time is from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration of $1 per person will be taken at the beach that day. Now you can practice all summer, as the McHenry Department of' Parks & Recreation offers a six-week track and field clinic taught by McHenry High School track coach Dan Boland. This instructional program will focus on conditioning, warm-ups, warm-downs, proper starting techniques, relay races, and field event skills. This program is for boys and girls ages 7 to 18. With the fee of $10 for District 15 & 156 residents, $15 for non-residents. The event will last six weeks, on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. at McCracken Field. The Kijox Park Pool is the answer, thanks to the McHenry Department of Parks & Recreation. v Beginning Monday, June 10, until Aug. 16, the Knox Park Pool will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 a.m. for an adult lap and open swim ses­ sion. All adults over the age of 16 are encouraged to participate in the water workout session. Registration is now being taken at the Parks office for this offer­ ing. A minimum of 15 people are required for this class to take place. The fee is $10 per person, and lockerrooms and shower facilities are available. For more information, call the Parks office, 344-3300. WL bike-a-thon nears The Wonder Lake Bike-A-Thon for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be held Saturday, June 29. Bikers of all ages are welcome. This year's chairperson is Dave Zieger. Prizes for raising funds will be awarded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All participants who raise at least $25 will receive a CF patqh. Participants raising over $25 are eligible for t-shirts, sport bags, digital watches and other prizes. "It's a great way to have fun and raise money for an important cause," says Zieger. Gymnastics at YMCA CRYSTAL LAKE -- The Lake Region YMCA Will begin its summer gymnastics program in June. From pre-school through high school, all classes will be held at Crystal Lake South High School. Pre-school classes will be held twice a week for four weeks, and grade school classes will be held Monday through Thursday for two- week sessions. There will be four two-week sessions, throughout the summer. High school age gymnastics will be held twice a week for 13 weeks with participants having option to pick weeks they wish to sign up for. There will also be a gymnastics team this summer, also at South. The team will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for 13 weeks, with each participant having option to sign up for at least seven of the 13 weeks. Team tryouts will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 30 at South High School. Sign-ups are being taken for all classes at the Lake Region YMCA. Call 459-4455 for more information. Soccer club plans tryouts The White Lightning Soccer Club, an organization serving the youth of northeastern McHenry and northwestern Lake counties by providing a competitive soccer program that allows the players to refine their soccer skills while learning the fundamentals of sport­ smanship and fair play. The club will be beginning its fifth season of play in the fall of 1985. To select the te*ms for the 85-86 season, the White Lightning will be holding registration for all age groups on June 4, 6,11, and 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Johnsburg Community Club. Each division has strict age limits. For the under-8 group, players must have been born in 1978 or 1979; under-10, 1976-1977; under-12, 1974-1975; and under-14,1972-1973. "There were two key factors," explained Warrior coach Pat Wirtz about the 9*3 loss to Jacobs. "First they had a decent pitcher, and secondly, their clean-up batter really surprised us." Number four hitter Becky Bralich proved her status as an all-Fox Valley Conference player was deserved, going 4- for-4 with two triples ana a double, netting four RBI for the day., "Becky really started out slow, this year, but she had finished' out the last two weeks strong. She has definitely worked to have a good solid swing," praised Jacobs' coach Don Cunningham.
