The meeting took place in Springfield in the governor's office in the Capitol Building. Chairman John Soffietti and Board Member Roy Gunderlach represented the newly-elected board at the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to press for support from the governor's office for an appropriation of $75,000 from the boat fund to support the operation of the newly-formed agency this year. In addition, the governor's 1986 budget already includes funds that will be reappropriated from this year's budget for $500,000 for dredging site acquistion and preparation. Agency Board members and area legislators also asked for consideration for the Chain of Lakes-Fox River area in the Governor's proposed "Building Illinois" Program. Board Members John Soffietti and Roy Gunderlach, aiong with the Chain of Lakes-Fox River area legislators, expressed satisfaction with the governor's reaction to their requests. On behalf of the area legislators. Sen. Jack Schaffer (R-Cary), who arranged the meeting, expressed the feeling that the governor shared their support and enthusiasm for the new agency. "With the amount of aid we are working to get through the General Assembly and to the governor's desk, I believe the agency can get off to a good start and begin its im portant mission of preserving and improving one of Illinois' important waterway system," commented Schaffer. In addition to meeting with Governor Thompson, the agency board members had an op portunity to meet with Donald R. Vonnahme, director of the Division of Water Resources, Department of Transportation, and with Director Micheal Witte, Department of Con servation, to establish forking relationships with two of the state agencies that the water way management agency will deal with. ^DRIVING RANGE 2 SmaN Bucket* For MINI GOLF COURSE 1 PAYS-2 PLAY *1.50 with this ad only!
