Also, Canadian Dave Barr, who finished second at the Open, will also be in the Western field and looking toward the $90,000 first place share of the $500,000 purse. Andy Bean, Larry Nelson and Mark McCumbe? are names that have already been engraved on the Wadley Trophy as Western Open champs, and they'll return to Batler in search of their second Western title. Mark O'Meara, who already has two wins on the PGA Tour this season, and is among the leaders on the money list, will try and improve upon his third place finish at last year's Western. Ben Crenshaw, who has struggled since winning the 1984 Masters title, hopes to day the same kind of golf he did when hie took Nelson to a playoff in the 1979 Western. Another golfer looking to recapture some'1 past Butler magic will be Bob Gilder, who owns the course record of 64. In addition to North, Mc- Cumber and O'Mear, another '85 tournament winner who is an early entrant to the Western field is Bill Glasson. The Kemper Open champion will be able to use his tremendous length off the tee to good advantage on the lengthy Butter layout. Former Masters and World Series champion Craig Stadler, who finished 8th on last year's money list, will be making his first appearance at Butler National since 198L Jerry Pate, who includes the U.S. Open, Tournament Players' Championship and Canadian Open among his tour victories, hopes to add the Western to his prestigious title list. The Inman brothers, Joe and John, want to make the battle of Butler National a family fight. Tour veteran Joe has played in nine Westerns and had his best finish in 1984, a tie for 7th.
