Lakemoor Village board approves appropriations By Marion Olsen PlalndMlcr-Herald News Service The annual Appropriations Ordinance for the village of Lakemoor was approved at the June 13 board meeting. A grand total of $454,699 was approved for the fiscal year May 1, 1985 through April 30, 1986. The largest expenditure for the village will go to the sewer fund with an appropriation of $169,739. The maior costs in this account will be for contractual services (mainly user charges to Island Lake Sanitary District and attorney fees) and retirement of aebt. The second most costly item of $54,040 will be spent on the police department with $32,140 of that amount planned for police salaries. The Road and Bridge Fund will claim $42,500 of the ap propriation. According to Pacita Morrison, village president, the village's financial picture would be much improved if monies owed the village, but currently under litigation were paid. In other business, Morrison informed the board of a meeting with an Illinois Department of Transpor ta t ion ( IDOT) representative on widening Route 120 from the Fox River east to the McHenry-Lake County line. A three year agenda planned by the state includes checking right-of-ways in 1985-86, land Acquisition in 1986-87 and letting bids to con tractors in 1987-88. A public hearing on the road widening will take place in the near future, Morrison said. In further business, the board: Approve a resolution opposing county approval of a landfill site between the, villages of Algonquin and Lake-in-the-Hills because part of the site lies within the corporate limits of Lake-in-the-Hills. Accepted with regret the resignation from the Zoning Board . of Appeals of Opie Chambers due to health reasons. Approved the July 20 flea market at the lakefront from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Lakemoor Civic Im provement Association. Approved letting of bids to re- roof the village hall and repair the fire escape. Approved a special board meeting June 24 at 7 p.m. to meet with Lakemoor tavern owners. CHAPEL HILL COUNTRYCLUB CHAPEL Hll MCHENRY 385-0333 Grant survey to be taken Edgar vows to push mandatory insurance Sec. of State Jim Edgar said Monday he would continue to seek passage of a mandatory insurance law during this session of the General Assembly. Edgar sdid he was disap pointed by the Senate Insurance Committee's rejection of the measure but he added, "this issue is not dead." "It comes to no surprise that the Senate Insurance Com mittee again defeated this proposal," Edgar said. "Drivers in this state un derstand this issue very well and 90 percent of them want it. I believe a majority of the full Senate also support the bill and would pass it if given the op portunity to vote on it." The house passed the man datory insurance bill on May 22, by a 68-45 margin. The Senate Insurance Com mittee has now failed to pass the mandatory insurance bill for the last three consecutive years. By Marion Olsen Plalndeoler-lteraMI New* Service ~ " Lakemoor residents will soon have an opportunity to assist in obtaining a government grant to improve the village's roads, according to Trustee Ronald Robinette, chairman of the village board's Grant Com mittee. Copies of a survey form will be distributed door-to-door and villagers will be asked to fill out the form and return it as soon as possible. The survey asks four questions: whether the resident is a homeowner or renter; number of members occupying the premises; length of residence and amount of income earned in 1984. No names or addresses are requested on the survey sheets. A 1980 census showed the average income of Lakemoor residents as $21,000. It is believed that the figure has changed downward, according to Village President Pacita Morrison. She said the grant application requires responses from at least 75 percent of the residents. Since no names are called for on the survey sheet, respondants will be anonymous. "I can see no reason why anyone would not want to assist us by filling out the form," she said. "Since it will help in obtaining grant money to improve Lakemoor roads, it will be to everyone's advantage." She noted that the deadline for turning in the gran application is July 31, so the forms must be in as soon as possible for inclusion in the grant request. A public hearing date on the grant is set for June 27.
