McHenry Jr. Youth League Three McHenry area youths compete at state bowling City plans adult tennis tournament lor July 12,19 The City of McHenry Depart­ ment of Parks & Recreation is sponsoring numerous events for adults this summer, and among them is the Adult Tennis Tourna­ ment. Three McHenry area residents recently competed in the finals of t h e 2 6 t h A n n u a l I l l i n o i s BPA/YABA Singles Champion­ ship Tournament in Oak Lawn. The three -- Scott Creden, Brian Anderson and Tiffany Miller -- all represented McHenry area bowl­ ing establishments. Creden was the top finisher of the three, taking an impressive third place in the eight-year-old age group. Miller and Anderson did not place. Now that you've put in long iiours practicing your tennis skills, it's time to see how well you've improved." There will be a singles and a doubles category for the Adult Tennis Tournament this year, to be held at various McHenry tennis courts. Participants will compete with others in your age group in a double elimination tournament. Singles competition will begin July 12 with an entry fee of $3.50. Doubles play will begin a week later. Met* 8, Cardinals 5 The Mets scored four runs In top of the second to take the lead, and then added solo runs in each of the final four Innings to hold off the Cardinals, 8-5. The Mets got sharp fielding throughout, in­ cluding a spectacular double play by Brett Den­ nis, and fine catches by Tim Barker, Joey En- wick and Brian Cunningham. Cunningham had two hits and three RBI to pace the offense, while David Grove, Jim Birkenkamp and Tim Bodecker all chipped in big days at the plate. Koleno and Davis led the way for the Cards. Ubrig shut the Twins out into the sixth, when they scored their only two runs of the ballgame. Ubrig was backed up by some fine fielding from the gloves of Ed Lemar and Casperson. Alheit drove in five runs with his doubles, while Casperson knocked in four with his pair of two-baggers. Cubs 5, Twins 1 Todd Freund was the winning pitcher, striking CardbMtoU,Owt*l Joe Klnnerk pitched a three-hitter to lead the Cardinal* to an 11-2 win over the Owls. The Cardinals scored all the runs they would need In the first Inning, when they tallied four timet. Mark Sonnlchsen, Brian Condon, Rudy Stepan, Ron Neece and Johnny Lee led the Cards' attack with two hits each. Scott Ssamlewskl paced the Owls' attack with two singles.
