The Americans were held hostage because the terrorists thought they could get what they wanted by holding Americans, not Israeli citizens, hostage. Certainly the idea that the release of the American hostages can be linked to the release of the Lebanese prisoners by Israel. However, the Israelis nave said that1 their prisoners were going to be released soon anyway. We doubt very much that Israel would be releasing them if it were totally against Israel's will. We are all glad and thankful that the hostages were released safely. However, it must not be forgotten that one of those on the hijacked plane, Robert Stethem, was killed by the terrorists. In addition, seven other Americans are being held by Lebanese terrorists after being kid­ napped. Terrorism will not end simply because the hostages of TWA Flight 847 were released.
