JUNE 25 At 2:30 p.m., the fire department was dispatched for a riding lawn mower fire in the 5200 block of Circle Drive. At 9:30 p.m., the rescue squad was called to the intersection of Crystal Lake Road and Elm Street for a traffic accident. * JUNE 26 ' I At 2:23 a.m., fire and rescue units responded to a house fire in the 500 l?lock of Rand Road in Lakeipoor. At 1:14p.m., the rescue squad was called to the 3700 block of Elm Street for a person who fell. At4:43p.m., the fire department was sent to the 500 block of Rand Road for a rekindle. , At 8:57 p.m., the fire department went to the 5100 block of Meadowhm for a car fire. At 9:40 p.m., the fire department was called to a traffic accident at the intersection of Fox Lake Road and Broadway. JUNE 27 At 12:53 a.m., the rescue squad was sent to the 1600 block of Industrial Drive for a person with kidney problems. At 9:39 a.m., the rescue squad responded to the 2600 block of Henzada for a person with heart problems. At 1:16 p.m., the rescue squad was called to the 700 block of Nancy Lane for a person with an airway problem. At 4:46 p.m., the rescue squad was dispatched to the 4800 block of Orchard for a nosebleed. At 9:15 p.m., the rescue squad was sent to the 500 block of Emerald for a child who was choking. At 11:48 p.m., the fire department was called to the 5300 block of Orchard for a furniture fire. JUNE 28 At5:08a.m., the fire department responded to a car fire east of Waukegan Road. At 2:09 p.m., the fire department was called for a truck fire in the 1100 block of Fourth Street. At 2:38 p.m., the rescue squad was sent to the 1100 block of Cumberland for a person who had died. At 3:58 p.m., the fire department was called for a dumpster fire at Pearl Street Park. At 6:56 p.m., the rescue squad went to a traffic accident at the intersection of Crystal Lake Road and Elm Street. At 6:52 p.m., the rescue squad responded for a person with a hip injury in Petersen Park. At 9:23 p.m., the fire department was called for a brush fire near the intersection of Ringwood Road and Flanders. JUNE 29 At 10:43 a.m., the rescue squad was dispatched to the in tersection of Scott and Riverside Drive where a man had fallen. At 1:11 p.m., fire and rescue units were alerted to a traffic accident on Route 120 west of Chapel Hill Road. At 2:24 p.m., the rescue squad was called for a traffic ac cident in the 1200 block of Green Street. At 2:29 p.m., the rescue squad was called for a heart attack at Chapel Hill Country Club. At 5:39 p.m., fire and rescue units responded to a water incident three-fourths of a mile north of the bridge on the Fox River. JUNE 30 At 3:12 a.m., fire and rescue units were called to a rollover traffic accident near the intersection of Orleans Drive and Drake. At 3:41 p.m., the rescue squad responded to the 3000 block of Route 120 for a baseball injury. At 5:39 p.m., fire and rescue units were called for a garage fire in the 3600 block of Anne Street. At 5:44 p.m., the fire department was notified of a grass fire near the 600 block of River Road. /St^-jljip.m., the fire department was called to the 3300 block of Fairway Drive for a dishwasher that was smoking. At 4:25 p.m., the rescue squad was sent to the 2800 block of Lincoln Road for a traffic accident. JULY 2 At 2:15 a.m., the rescue squad went to the 4300 block of Crestwood for a person having difficulty breathing. At 4:16 a.m., the fire department was called to the in-, tersection of Bay and Weingart Roads for a car that was smoking. Entries available for talent show Entries for the 21st annual Talent Contest in conjunction with the McHenry County Fair are being accepted. Auditions will be held Sunday, July 28. Bill Tammeus, founder of the contest and general chairman, said entry blanks are available at the fair office on Country Club Road at Route 47. Following auditions, finalists will be chosen in Junior, Senior, and Adult division competition. The finals will be a feature of the Friday night, Aug. 2 fair ac tivities, at 6 p.m. A total of $975 in prize money will be awarded 24 contestants in the three classes. Every entrant reaching the finals- competing at the fair on Aug. 2 will receive a least $20. the three classes are determined as follows: Junior, age 14 and under on Dec. 1,1985; Senior, under 21 on Dec. 1,1985; and Adult, 21 and over. The auditions will be at Hansen Pavilion on the fairgrounds, same site of the August 2 finals. Tammeus said entries may be single, duos or groups per forming anything entertaining to fair-goers as determined by a group of audition judges. All entries must live or got to school in McHenry county. Response to the distribution of entry blanks to schools in April and May has been good, Tam meus reported. Entries will be accepted up to Saturday, July 27. MCC holds first GED ceremony Approximately 100 athered in the 1< persons lounge of cHenry County College recently to watch 23 of their friends and relatives receive completion certificates during the first GED Graduation Ceremony held in this area. Ed Eisner, MCC Director of Special Programs, was master of ceremonies. MCC President Bob Bartlett handed out the certificates. Also representing the college were Jim Gray, Associate Dean of Instruction for Community Services; John Adelmann, Dean of Instruction; Counselors Shirley Webster and Nancy Bartoline; and Virginia Hoover, of the Office of Special GED teachers are: Linda Gough, John and Ruth Arm strong, and Theresa Reinhard. The General Educational Developemnt Program is a way for adult residents of McHenry County to earn a high school equivalency certificate. Classes to prepare individuals to take the GED battery of tests are offered by McHenry County College in the fall, spring and summer at sites throughout the county and in-plaht at some business locations. Bartlett told those assembled that continuing education is the key to our society's adaptability to the new technological world and that the GED graduates have begun that process. He encouraged them to continue to help upgrade our society for the needs of the future and stressed that continuing education is an obligation of all of us regardless of our level of education. According to Eisner, "In the last vear, 86 people have suc cessfully complete GED (at MCC). Many of these have gone one to further study. The GED Graduation Ceremony is going to become an annual tradition at MCC each June. Those finishing requirements form this point on will be eligible to participate in next year's ceremonies. "This was our first experience having a GED Graduation Ceremony. We felt it was very successful and was lot of fun for everyone. It was especially important because it gave recognition to those who nave worked so hard to come back to school and finish their high school equivacency." • X..-J • The next opportunity to take GED classes through McHenry County College is in October. Funded by the Illinois State Board of Education and the local college district, the classes are offered primarily free of charge. Broad St., McHenry, died Monday, July 1, 1985, from in juries sustained in an automobile accident June 30. He was born Sept. 16, 1965, in Burlington, Wis., to William and Myrna (Moericke) Webster. A resident of McHenry most of his life, Mr. Webster attended McHenry District 15 schools; graduated from McHenry high school in 1984; and was on the polo team while at East campus. He had worked with his parents who own Highland Home in Genoa City, Wis.; was em- ployewd1 by the McHenry Country Club while in high school; and recently was an employee of Joyce Bottlers in Round Lake, 111. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother Timothy of McHenry; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Moericke of Land-O- Lakes, Wis.
