According to national statistics this is a totally outstanding, return for an area of our population density . July 23rd offers us the op portunity to thank our con tributors personally as well as provide them with a great evening of fun." he added. Crime Stoppers is an op portunity for indivduals within a community to report in formation they may have that could lead to the solution of crimes while maintaining their anomnymity. It rewards the caller with cash up to $1,000 if the information leads to the arrest of an offender. Recently, an 800 number has been acquired for the entire County Crime Stoppers: 8OO-762-STOP so that no one even need to spend a dime in order to share this information with the police. The central number receives the call and then the information is referred to the respective police or sheriff's department. The County Crime Stoppers group is made up of six boards within the individual com munities in the county. These boards are made up of volun teers from the specific areas whose responsibility is their zip Codes for whatever boundaries they select. In turn there is a representative from each of these boards that makes up the coupty committee which provides the representation needed to thoroughly cover all of the areas without exception. Recently, a series of burglaries have been afflicting the area. Two strings of these burglaries have been stopped by the information given from Crime Stoppers callers. The Crime Stoppers concept is based on the conviction that many individuals * private citizens within the community, have infohiiatidft that tanhelp the police solve crimes, but hestitate to share that in formation with the police for fear of reprisal, and-or because they do not choose to identify themselves in connection with the information. Crime Stoppers removes that barrier by assigning a number to the caller when the initial call is made. The caller's identity is nevef asked, never known, therefore, could never be revealed. Mike Cajthaml, Chairman of the McHenry Area Crime Stoppers Board, states, "Crime Stoppers is a civilian's op portunity to help the police in making our community a safer and better place to live. The police often times know who has committed a crime, but knowing is not enough - it has to be proven. These bits of in formation that can be provided from a witness or from in formation they may overhear, can provide the little pieces that complete the puzzle so that the police can arrest and can prosecute."
