Many people in this vicinity stayed up past bedtime Monday night to view the total eclipse of the moon, which was a perfect show for this region with a cloudless sky and conditions ideal for making the spectacle easily seen. The moon, totally eclisped by the earth, shone copper-colored from refracted rays of the sun, was in total eclipse at 11:09 remaining so for one hour forty minutes, being clear at 2:35 a.m. The eclipse was the longest visible in mis country in 50 years and there will not be another of such length for another half century. Representative v William M. Carroll stated at a meeting of the Woodstock Lions Club that the recently passed legislation raising the sales tax from two to three cents was unnecessary. He said the increase was sought to finance unemployment relief in the state and that the point was made and not contradicted that the present system for the administration of relief in the state is inefficient, wasteful and extravagant and tends to discourage the initiative of the unemployed in the direction of again becoming self-supported.
