Page 2 McHENRY PLAINDEALER Section A Wednesday, July 31,1965 Community Obituaries Harold A. Steffan Harold A. Steffan, 75, died at his home in Lodi, Wis. Wed­ nesday, July 24, 1985. He was bom in Carpentersville in 1910, to Ernest and Minnie (Kremke) Steffan. Mr. Steffan moved to McHenry in 1946, opened and operated Steffan's Jewelry until 1975, when he retired and moved to Wisconsin. He belonged to St. Patrick'5 parish in Lodi; was a past representative for the Salvation Army; past member of the Catholic Order of Foresters," Knights of Columbus and Rotary Club. On Oct. 31,1935 he married the former Teresa J. Kozumplik, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ken (Marie E.) Diedrich; three sons, Paul H. (Phylis) of Wildwood. 111., James (Virginia) of Hockford, 111. and Robert (Patricia) of Elgin, 111.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Other survivors are two brothers, Raymond and Gordon, both of Elgin; and three sisters, Mrs. Ray (Evelyn) Krog of Plato Center, 111., Mrs. William (Bernice) Lazear of "Arizona and Mrs. Karl (Marion) Miller of St. Charles, 111. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Kenneth. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Villa Desiderada, with Father Eugene Lutz officiating. Memorials can be given for Masses or to the cancer society. Russell M. Wallace Russell M. Wallace of Wonder Lake died in his home Wed­ nesday, July 24, 1985. He was 37 years old, born in Chicago Sept. 25, 1947, the son of John and Virginia (Cannizzo) Wallace. Mr. Wallace had lived in the Hebron-Wonder Lake area nearly all his life and was a sanitation engineer for Kenosha Beef International in Hebron. Surviving are his wife, the fbrmer Dana L. (Libby) whom he married in Woodstock May 9, 1970; two daughters, Michele and Cari and a son Rusty, all at home; his parents in Hebron", two brothers, James of Lom­ bard and William of Virgil, 111.; and two sisters, Virginia Wallace of Wonder Lake and Shirley Wallace of Sarasota, Fla. Funeral services were con­ ducted at 11 r30 a.m. Saturday in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, McHenry, with Pastor Roger W. Schneider officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery, McHenry. Friends called from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home. John J. Van Kanegon Jofci J. VanKanegon, 86, of Metaire, La., died Monday, July 22, 1985, in Chateau Living Center, Kenner, La. He was born in Buffalo, NY Feb. 26, 1899. Formerly of Chicago, Mr. VanKanegon resided in Wonder Lake from 1941-1983; was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake; church organist 20 years; musical director for radio station WGES, Chicago 25 years; and 10-year employee of the McHenry Township Assessor's office. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Janet) Wagner of Metaire; two sons, Jack (Harriet) VanKanegan of Wonder Lake and James (Maxine) VanKanegan of Metaire; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother Peter VanKanegon of Denver, Colo. His wife Ethel preceded him in death June 16, 1969. Funeral services were held Thursday and interment was in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery, Metaire. A Memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, at 10 a.m., in Christ the JKing church. Arrangements were made by Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home. Steven W. Ishman Steven W. Ishman, well- known in the McHenry area, died Monday, July 22, 1985 in Washington, DC. He was 38 years old, the son of Perry A. and Irene C. Ishman of Crystal Lake. Mr. Ishman had been an accountant for GTE, Northlake, m. He was born March 17, 1905, in Chicago, the son of Paul and Hermine (Schalk) Spruth. He was a banking official for First National Bank of Chicago 42 years; member of McHenry Masonic Lodge 158 aqd honorary past master; former member and past master of Cleveland Masonic Lodge 211, Chicago, serving both lodges more than 50 years. He was employed by Mitchell Buick and Oldsmobile, McHenry as evening office manager. Surviving are his wife Ber- neice (UKlich) whom he married Aug. 4,1934 in Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Gloria) Heiberger of Manhattan, Kans.,,Mrs. Franco (Shirley) Fiorentino of Elk Grove Village and Mrs. Paul (Judie) Sorensen of Walworth, Wis.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother Wilbert of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was held Sunday in Shepherd of the Hills church, with the Rev. Roger Schneider officiating. Burial was in Ringwood Cemetery.' Memorials may be made to the church or McHenry County American Cancer Society. Herman R. Kreutzer Herman R. Kreutzer, 78, 1512 N. Park St., McHenry, died Friday, July 26, 1985 in his home. He was born June 19,1907 in Chicago, the son of Herman and Ida (Kraple) Kreutzer. Mr. Kreutzer came to McHenry from Chicago in the early 1920s; was the proprietor of Atlas Prager beer distributors many years; owned Sip and Snack Inn, McHenry; served with the US Army in the Eurpopean theatre during WW II; was a member of American Legion Post 491 more than 35 years; lifetime member of VFW Post 4600 and McHenry Moose Lodge 691. He belonged to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, McHenry and Catholic Order of Foresters 594. Surviving are his wife Helen (Smith) whom he married May 4,1935 in Johnsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Hagberg of McHenry and Mrs. Eleanore Popolorum of Chicago; a brother Walter of Chicago; nine nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William. Visitation was held after 3 p.m. Monday in the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was offered at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's church and burial wds in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to McHenry bounty Hospice or McHenry County Cancfer Society. Clara V. Tucker . Clara V. Tucker, 78, formerly of McHenry, died Thursday, July 25,1985, in Sheridan Health Care Center, Zion, 111. She was born Nov. 6, 1906, in Benld, the daughter of Walter and Rosie (Ryan) Davis. Mrs. Tucker resided in North- field six years before moving to Royal Terrace Nursing Home, McHenry. She was employed most of her life as a waitress in the Chicago area. - Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William (Pearl) Koester of McHenry; a son Elmer Jr. (Dorothy) of Lynnwood; three grandchildren; a great­ grandchild and three sisters. She wgs preceded in death by her husband Elmer Tucker Sr., three brothers and a sister. Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday in the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, where private funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Roger Schneider of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Mchenry, officiating. Burial was in Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Mr. Potter was raised in the Woodstock area and attended school districts 15 and 156. He was employed by Morton Chemical Co. the past six years, as a chemical operator and former member of the Oak Park Softball team. Surviving are his wife Ann (Ziolkowski), whom he married Sept. 25, 1983 in McHenry; a daughter Nicole Lynn at home; his parents in Jacksonville, Fla.; father-in-law Richard Ziolkowski of McHenry; mother-in-law Alice Newberg of McHenry; a brother Robert of Houston, Tex. and three sisters, Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Lewey of Jacksonville, Mrs. Marty (Nancy) Roppolo of Chicago and Mrs. Ernie (Rose) Madaus of Ft. Meyers, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Suter. Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home, where funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Merle Conklin of Wonder Lake Bible Church. Interment was in Ringwood Cemetery. Memorials in his name are requested to Northern Illinois Medical Center. Kenneth J. Fleming; Kenneth J. Fleming, 73, of McHenry, died Saturday, July 27,1985 in his home. He was born in McHenry Feb. 16, 1912, the son of Bernard and Anne (Fleming) Frisby Mr. Fleming resided in Mcifenry 18 years, having come from Chicago. He was a retired Chicago Fire Department fireman. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Wilfred (Sandra) Blake, Jr. of McHenry; three grand­ children ; and one great- granddaughter. A Funeral Mass was offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, McHenry. Burial was in St. Patrick's Countryside Cemetery. Friends called from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Peter M.
