The Addamses and the Munsters were both canceled in 1966, but "Bewitched" continued to cast a spell over its viewers until 1972. Samantha Stephens, played by Elizabeth Montgom­ ery, sincerely wanted to quit her witchery, please her husband Oarrin and settle down like a normal house­ wife. But the temptation to use her powers was usual­ ly too great: with a tweak of her nose she could do anything from cleaning the house to summoning George Washington into her living room. Her nagging mother Endora (Agnes Moorehead), also a witch, didn't want her daughter to forsake the art, and took great pleasure in placing temptation in her path. Poor Oarrin certainly had a right to com­ plain about his in-laws. Before "Bewitched" had finished its long run, Samantha had exasperated not one, but two Darrins. Dick York was the first.
