United Press International CHICAGO -- Police say Cory Masek's sense of direction failed him twice in one day -- first when he drove his van into a police car, and again when he tried to escape by running into Traffic Court. Masek, 32, had been scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on four earlier traffic tickets, police said. On his way, Masek ran a red light and then rammed a patrol car during a chase that ended at his original destination. "I can't ever remember a per son coming into traffic court to evade the law," said Traffic Court Judge Daniel White. "He picked the wrong place to run. He ran rigit into the arms of the law. "There are usually more po lice in Traffic Court than there are in most district police stations." Four officers suffered minor injuries, including three who seized Masek as he allegedly at tempted to grab one officer's gun. Masek was charged with reckless conduct, resisting ar rest and several traffic violations. election campaign treasurer and partner in the airport's auditing firm, had suggested telling the news media "we're sending in Rambo to audit the books." Schoemehl said he had waited too long to deal with Banks, an influen tial Democrat from north St. Louis. "To continue a relationship with him ... does great damage to the Airport Authority," the mayor said. Banks' Premier Service Corp. has operated the airport limo service since 1982. His bid this year for a contract to keep the exclusive ser vice far outdistanced two competi tors. But his winning bid was made only after airport commissioners threw out the initial bids, when Banks' offer was the lowest. In addition, the board told the Airport Commission to hire an out side auditor for a special inquiry to determine whether Banks has paid the city all the money he owes. Documents made public Wednes day show that airport Director Leonard Griggs first told Schoe mehl in April 1983 that Banks was failing to report accurately his lim ousine service's revenue. The air port is owned by the city. A report to Schoemehl from chief aide Thomas Mangogna said Banks' "major problem will be explaining why he did not fully pay the city some $100,000, a conservative esti mate, I think, based on guesses from airport records." Paul Liberatore, Schoemehl's United Press International ST. LOUIS -- Mayor Vincent Schoemehl, in joining other officials to oust Sen. J.B. "Jet" Banks as the Lambert Field limousine operator, says doing business with the influ ential legislator does "great dam age" to the airport. Schoemehl, Comptroller Paul Berra and aldermanic President Thomas Zych voted Wednesday to end Banks' contract to operate the airport limousine service. A new operator is to be chosen within 30 days. The mayor, comptroller and al dermanic president comprise the Board of Estimate and Apportion ment, the city's chief fiscal body. COMMERCIAL PROPERTY 186 ft. on Rt* 120. cut of brid|«.
