In fact, thousands of adolescents in Illinois suffer from problems serious enough to require professional guidance. The same proportion of teenagers as adults suffer from emotional problems. Adolescence is a time of "growing pains" and, consequently, some confusion. As they slowly move from dependence to independence, adolescents struggle with educational and career decisions, peer pressure and emerging sexuality. Some teens can't handle the pressure. Some may abuse drugs, become delinquent or run away. Still others become extremely depressed -- some enough to try suicide. Suicide ranks as the second leading cause of death among adolescents. A teenager experiencing emotional problems should be taken seriously. If you think your teenager may need help, call us. Riveredge Hospital is a community mental health resource. We can help you find the help that's needed. For a tree booklet on the myths surrounding emotional problems, call us or return the coupon.
