Peoples' cars, other peoples' cars, seemed to be the target of thieves in the Wonder Lake area last week. At 2:53 a.m., John Boeker, of 7605 Beach, Wonder Lake, called the Mc Henry County Sheriffs Police after he found two people trying to take a Jeep parked in his driveway. Boeker yelled to the two would-be theives, who fled in another vehicle. The police later found the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the car drove off and did not stop until it hit an embankment at East Wonder Lake and Deep Springs Road. The two subjects then fled on foot, the police report said. The other car? It had been stolen from the residence of Richard Mure, 7709 Hickory, Wonder Lake. On Aug. 13, Edwin Wittrock, of 7713 Arbor, Wonder Lake, reported the theft of his car from his driveway. Armed Forces KRISKE Army Pvt. John M. Kriske, son of Ronald Kriske of Wonder Lake and Helen Kriske of Chicago, has com pleted one station unit training at the U.S. Army Infantry School (OSUT), Fort Benning, Ga. OSUT is a 12-week period which combines basic combat training and advanced individual training. The training included weapons qualification, squad tactics, patrol ling, landmine warfare, field com munications and combat opera tions. Completion of the course qualifies the soldier as a light-weap ons infantryman and as an indirect fire crewman. KHAROUF Capt. John G. Persons interest ed in helping to conduct the survey are invited to join commission members in an orientation sched uled for 7 p.m. in the community room of the McHenry Public Library. A slide show will help acquaint volunteers with the various features to be observed in making an assess ment of the buildings. Those involved in the survey will designate'the structure's use, the building material, unique ornamen tal elements, the style of the build ing and its present condition. Expert assistance will be given to volunteers; therefore, it is neces sary that those conducting the sur vey be present at the slide show meeting. The survey is the first important step in accumulating information on all structures within the city limits built before 1910. When it is com pleted, residents will be invited to submit information on their homes a n d b u s i n e s s e s f o r p l a q u e consideration. The new survey and plaquing will not be associated with the 1976 un dertaking which was in observance of the bicentennial year. One of the homes to be included in the present survey is the "Count's House" at 3803 W. Waukegan Road, purchased in 1965 by the late Robert Weber and his wife, Marya, who continues to reside in the home. This Greek Revival-style house was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places June 3, 1982 ~ the only City of McHenry home so designated. The man for whom the house de rived its name was Count Oscar Bopp von Oberstadt and its archi tecture dates to antebellum times. This particular style of architecture went out of fashion at the close of the Civil War, meaning the house was probably built prior to 1865. The Count was accorded his title by appointment. He was named Privy Chamberlain to the Pope by Leo XIII, an honor renewed by Pope PiusX. In 1922, Count Oscar Bopp von Oberstadt donated a small bell to St. Patrick's Church and it hangs to this day in the sanctuary belfry. The bell bears the personal coat-of- arms of the Count and his wife, Elizabeth, along with a decoration worn by the Count as Chamberlain to the Pope. The reverse side bears a cross and the name of the pastor. While many structures to be sur veyed this fall may never be recog nized for inclusion on the National Registry of Historic Places, they are considered highly valuable in compiling the history of McHenry. \VhirlDdol Model MW8100XP WAS $285.00 NOW *252.00 Whirlpool Model MW8100XP • Rotary Control as easy to use as setting your clock • Automatic Timer provides up to 25 minutes of continuous cooking or defrosting time • Defrost Setting speeds up meal preparation when frozen foods are on the menu • Cook Power-convenient switch lets you adjust cook power • Sealed-in Shelt • Large, 1.3 cu. ft. oven interior • 700 Watts of Cooking Power • Balanced Wave Cooking System Model MW8300XP WAS $329.00 N0W29800 Whirlpool Model MW8300XP • Dual-Scale Timer provides up to 35 minutes of continuous cooking or defrosting • Variable Cook Power Control lets you select cook powers from high to low including defrost • Solid-State Temperature Probe turns oven off at selected temperature • Defrost Setting speeds up meal preparation when frozen foods are on the menu ' • Large, 1.3 cu. ft. oven interior • 700 Watts of Cooking Power • Sealed-in Shelf • Balanced Wave Cooking System BETTER Whifloool Model MW8580XP Whirlpool Model MW8580XP • Microcomputer touch controls • Quick Defrost Cycle defrosts most foods in 40o,o less heating time than standard Whirlpool defrost cycles WAS $369.00 NOW $332.00 > In-Use Reprogramming* allows changing or adding any operation while oven is in use without cancelling existing program » Keep Warm Cycle holds food at serving temperature after time or temperature cooking »Cooking Cycle provides up to 99 mm and 99 sec of cooking time » Cook Power -10 level variable power > Solid-State Temperature Probe turns oven off at selected temperature • Time of Day Clock • Bi-Level Cooking Rack provides room for complete meal cooking or reheating of foods » Large, 1.3 cu. ft. oven interior »700 Watts of Cooking Power • Sealed-in Shelf • Balanced Wave Cooking System 'Patent Pending LEE & RAY ELECTRIC 1005 N.
