jWcHIENR>MPLAMSjPE^L^^^^ctJoj^^^^ur*da^Augu*^j2^985 Pa^^^ Community Fifth graders at Landmark Moving memorial plaques to NIMC John Nellis, former principal at Hilltop School and now in the same position at Landmark, corrected in formation in last week's column re garding the whereabouts of fifth grade students. Fifth graders in our area had been at Hilltop or Montini in the past. This year, our public school fifth graders will be going to Landmark, following in Nellis' footsteps. Confusing? Kindergarten through fourth grade will be at Hilltops sixth, seventh and eighth will be in Parkland in west McHenry; then, on to high school at McHenry East. Most schools start Monday, -Aug. 26. For exact times, call school dis trict 15 junior high at 385-2522, ele mentary, 385-7210 and high school 156,385-7900. Margaret Karas 385-4934 , FORMER RESIDENTS Suzy Wipper will be studying at Lake Forest College this fall, and working in the campus library. Alma and Bud Hueckstaedt keep us informed about the fishing in their Chino Valley, Ariz. area. Marie Thomas, now in Glendora, Calif., misses her friends and students, but is feeling better in the California climate. A man stopped in at the library and asked if I didn't recognize him, as he was a former neighbor. It was Ronnie Schaft, who had spent his young years on Stueben Road in the house where Mieszalas now live. Ronnie and his wife Nancy were here for a legal purpose and to visit with parents Andy and Terry, now living in Ringwood. Ronnie and Nancy live in Loveland, Colo, with their two children. I hope to visit them the next time I get to Long- ; mont to see my sister. It's a small world. The sister of Bernice Woodie, for mer resident of Lilymoor many years ago, called from Arizona to check on property she owns. Ber nice is well and sends her regards. A hello is relayed to former neigh bors in Lakemoor from Mrs. Bryan, now living in Wonder Lake. Gloria Cassell will be traveling out west to receive honors for her poetry. A call from Washington, DC was a joyous surprise. Although Marvin Schoenholz was not a former resi dent of pur area, his work with the McHenry schools made a great im pact on many people here, including myself. He had read of Gloria's trip and awards, and knew of another person who might be going. A souce of satisfaction for Schoenholz is that his son is now the superintendent at Leyden Township schools. Like fa ther, like son. GET WELLS Joe Yerkes now has only one arm in a cast. He is really hung over these days, as he is leaning over the bathtub for water therapy for his released arm. Pearl Abernathy's daughter Peg gy Sue collapsed on the way to visiting a friend and is still hospital ized, which is a great concern to her little daughter and husband Neil. Wayne Meyer is still undergoing therapy three times a week for his work related injury. His wife Laura is wearing a leg brace for a knee problem. CUBS GAME April Baker using the two tickets won for her part in the Summer Reading Program at the McHenry Nunda Library, had a ball at the game Thursday, Aug. 15. She and her mother Lily Ann Fisher went via public Transportation to Wrig- ley Field. It took some time to reach their seats as they, were "way up there," but it was well worth the effort. And the Cubs even obliged by winning the game! IN WISCONSIN Vickie and Guy Delp, with chil dren Heidi, Grant and Rachael and dog Major, spent time with Vickie's parents at the Wisconsin Dells. Tommy Bartlett's Ski Show was a first-time experience for the family. An Evangelistic team from the south presented programs for two evenings. The movie "The Cross and the Switchblade" was shown, but a severe wind and rain storm cut that short. Grant volunteered his sister as a participant in the magic show and Heidi looked very neat with a sword through her throat. Fire destroyed six buildings on the main (only) street in the Dells, including the Haunted Mansion. The whole area was closed off five hours, with fire departments of five surrounding communities helping stop the blaze. Vickie was on an errand when the fire broke out, and was unable to return to her family for the whole time. It was a happy three-week vaca tion without major catastrophies, as even independent four-year-old Ra chael returned home without mishap. CELEBRATIONS * Barb Nejedly will be receiving wishes for a happy birthday Aug. 21. Aug. 25 will be a busy time for these youngsters in our area: Heather Lipman, who will be 10 years old, her neighbor Lesly Miles, Frankie Farenzena, who will be six, and Philip Marcadante. Memories of Ida Legge return on her birthday Aug. 22, when she would have been 102 years old. SOX LOST IN MILW. Friday evening, Aug. 16, found a bus load of McHenryites on their way to the Sox-Brewers game in Milwaukee. Tickets Mand bus ar rangements for this outing of the Riverside Social and Athletic Club had been made by Bruno Karas. All went off as scheduled, with 42 males enjoying the freedom from prob lems of driving and parking, plus the enjoyment of food and libation on the way. -'"A serious mishap occurred when Jimmy Clark, Francis Clark's son, slipped on the cement stairwell and went down about five steps. The rescue squad was there within min utes, enclosing Jim in braces before transporting him to the local hospi tal. Jim is still hospitalized, await ing the outcome of a CAT scan. This has added to the pain the Clark family endured this past month. Another casualty was losing Freddy Matthesius, but the lost was found before the bus left. And the s Sox lost, too. MAILBOX REVERSAL Mailboxes along Lily Lake Road usually receive a battering from passing people who vent their anger on these unobtrusive holders of United States mail. Not so with the receptacle that serves the McHenry Nunda Li brary. Last Thursday the mailbox which had been badly dented some months ago, was almost back to its pre-vandalized state. Some un known craftsman had repaired the dent, allowing the lid to close again. There are some mighty nice people around.. % I ®) / If You Fail To Receive Your McHenry Plaindealer Before 7:00 a.m. • Please Call Our Circulation Dept. Before 10:00 a.m. at 385-0178. Plaindealer Circulation Dept. 385-0178 Northern Illinois Medical Center has recently been attempting to contact those people who were kind enough in past years to make a donation which was marked with a memorial or gift plaque to McHenry Hospital. Now that McHenry Hall, the for mer McHenry Hospital building, has been sold and is to be made into a congregate care center for senior citizens, it is hoped that the plaques from the old building can be dis played in a place of honor at NIMC. In this way, NIMC can still recog nize the contribution of individuals and organizations who helped build their foundation. If there is no disagreement in response to attempts to find the original donors, the plaques will be displayed at NIMC.
