2®J«J1JJcHENR^LAINDEALERb|̂ Community Lakemoor/Lily moot* It's time to share talent The artistic people in our area will have an opportunity to share their talents with users of the Mc- Henry Nunda Library during Na tional Arts Week. There are so many beautiful items made by our local people that others are un aware of. This will be the second annual display of the artistic works of our Margaret Karas 3854934 area. Time will also be arranged for anyone willing to give a demonstra tion of a special craft. Are you a painter, quilter, knitter, crocheter, writer, graphics person, photographer, or have other special talents? Call 385-6303 and let others enjoy your special abilities. BANNER TELLS ALL "Lordy, Lordy, Nancy's Forty" was the banner hung on Nancy Schuft's garage on Lily Lake Road Saturday, Aug. 24, in honor of her passing from 39 and holding, into tltie 40's. Neighbor Maggie Dunna- gan was the artist and hanger-up in announcing to one and all the status of Nancy's years. More than 40 friends and relatives fathered in the Schuft's yard for a happy afternoon and evening. Mem bers of the Lockwood family, who had come from Missouri, Tennessee and as far as California for the 50th annual gathering of the clan on Sun day, also enjoyed this preliminary happy time of remembering, while enjoying luscious foods prepared by Stan and Nancy and brought by the guests. When the torrent of rain came, a hastily improvised canvas cover over the deck and barbecue area kept food and guests dry. Even the mosquitoes were cooperative and didn't dine too heartily on the asem- bled guests on Nancy's day. SCHOOL TIME Safety of our youngsters waiting for and being discharged from school busses is a concern of par ents, children and drivers. Parents should instruct their children to wait for the school busses off the roads, with their books and lunch boxes lined up on the shoulder. Children must be reminded to stay off the streets designated for traffic during their waiting time. Drivers must be alert to the possi ble dart of a youngster into the street. By everyone's extra awareness, another nine months of school trans portation will pass with no accidents. BIRTHDAYS Chris Gaskell's birthday was Aug. 27, but wishes for a special year go to him especially from Denise. Eliz abeth, aka Betsy, Pahlke of Lake- moor celebrates her day the 29th. Pam Messman adds a teen year the same day. Aug. 30 is B day for John James Nixon, Robbie Caldwell and Kay Watkins. Little Sue Ellen Taylor will have birthday cake Aug. 31. Micklin Kent will be 12 years old Sept. 4. And, birthday wishes are sent aqcross the Atlantic tojfari- beth Karas van Loon on the*fame date. Remembered on Aug. 29 is the anniversary of Rick and Hedie Foss, formerly of Lakemoor, who are now-living in California. LITERACY PROGRAM Added to McHenry Nunda Li brary's aids for adults with reading problems are high interest books with the stories told on cassette tapes. This helps the reader by hearing the words as they are seen in print. The tape-book combina tions were purchased with Revenue Sharing money from Nunda Town ship. Libraries have many pro grams for anyone interested in im proving reading skills. FAREWELL Terry and Judy Bird and daugh ter Wendy have left to make their home in McHenry Shores. They had added much with the beauty spot they made of their home on Stueben Road. Watching Wendy grow from a dark haired shy youngster into a lovely young lady has been a joy. Judy helped with the subdivision roads, and Terry helped with the noise pollution. We shall miss them, but our loss is the Shores gain. Getting ready Members of McHenry County Mental Health Resource League admire some of the apparel to be modeled at the Sept. 26 "Celebration" fashion show and luncheon at Turnberry Country Club in Crystal Lake. They are, from left to right, Voni Ferguson of McHenry, a MHRL officer; Sally Stallard of Woodstock, MHRL president; and Joline Frazier of Crystal Lake. The show will follow after the 11:45 a.m. seating for the luncheon. Reserva tions may be made by calling Barbara Sammartin, 337-0651.
