Jantno Turnor SoopWorld Janine Turner having lota of fun aa blonde By Connie Paesatecqua Just like actress Lana Turner, who was supposed ly "discovered" at a drug store soda fountain. "Gen eral Hospital's" Janine Turner (no relation) got her start after being seen In a drug store -- albeit on a check-out line. Two years ago, Leonard Katzman, the producer of "Dallas." took one look at Miss Turner, in such a store in her home town of Fort Worth. Texas and shortly afterward cast her in a short, running role in his hit series. Like most starlets with humbie beginnings, her career began to pick up steam. Miss Turner won the role of the beautiful, but Vapid ispiring actress Janie-Claire Willow on a new laft-night CBS soap operft '/Behind the Screen." - The show fizzled after 13 episodes, but as a result. Miss Turner won the role of Laura Templet on on "Gen eral Hoepital." "My mother has a saying," Janine explains, "When God closes a door, he opens a window. I've always had trust in it." For her new role. Miss Turner had to dye her natu- raMy brown hair, so she would resemble the show's blond superstar, Genie Francis, who had left the cast. "Being a blonde is fabulous," says Miss Turner, whose acting has improved considerably since she first joined "OH" in January. ( ( Miss Turner has beer seen around Hollywood dating former President Gerald Ford's son Steve, who currently has a rurfhing role on "Young and Restless." She also dates GH castmate John Sta/nos, who plays Blackle. << "We're just good, friends," she says of both involvements. In her spare time Miss Turner is an avid hat collec tor. "I have more than 50." she says, "and It's quite an expensive hobby." Her favorite hats are those which were rrtsde in the 1930s and 1940s. / ©itttCodiptdog '
