WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 1919 New Trier Sport Notes NEW TRIER WON TWO TITLES FRIDAY NIGHT "Well we won fellows!" was the familiar call about the campus Fri- day evening after the home swim- ming teams, both senior and junior, had taken two swimming matches from some neighboring schools. Gary failed to appear for the match and probably gained by it as New Trier's swimmers had made up their minds for a clean sweep of the events. The boys deserved to win. On top \ following cadets qualified to repre- | sent their different companies at | ihe final drill to be held next Mon- | ay: : bins, O. Brown, C. Varney, H. Heuch-: ling, E. Capps, W. Weld, M. Osgood, of the victory came the announce- ment from Art Wright, the cheer leader, that the basketball team had | won their two first games at Joliet. And to celebrate the event in true] style Wright took a jump into the tank, in his duck outfit. The next meet 'will be held next Tuelday between the Marshmallow Munchers and Chocolate Chewers and the following Thursday The Kandy Kids will meet the Fudge Fighters in another tilt. Prizes will be awarded to the teams showing the best individual record and the team taking first place. It will be interesting to know that in the swimming meets this year, in which they took the Suburban league championship, New Trier has scored 212 points to the opponents 86. Some record! With the exception | of Lane Tech New Trier claims to be one of the best, if not the best prep | team in the Middle West. And to] settle the dispute with Lane Tech, | supposed to have a stronger team | than New Trier, the school has] challenged the local boys offering to! meet them in their tank or at Kenil- | worth. No answer to the challenge | has been received. NEW TRIER OUT OF RUNNING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP 1 |] in When Evanston suffered Bloom, | one of the weakest teams of thé | league, to beat her last Saturday at | Evanston, they not only lost their fourth game of the season but put New Trier out of the first division or spoiled any chance they had of getting there. The way things stood before the game Saturday New Trier had to beat Deerfield today in order to play in the finals for the champion- ship, but Evanston had to beat Bloom or we stood no chance. The result! of the game was that New Trier will battle for honors in the second divis- jon starting today with Deerfield. A week from Saturday they will meet Morton at New Trier in the evening. On Friday, March 28, New Trier will play at Morton. : The lightweights must beat River- side Saturday in order to stay in the | second division.
