A WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 1919 BIG VICTORY LOAN CAMPAIGN APRIL 21 Secretary Glass announced that the campaign for the Victory Liberty loan will open April 21 and close Saturday, May 10. During that per- iod short term notes to the extent of $7.000,000,000 will have to be disposed of. ; The notes will mature in from one to five years. The rate of interest has not been fixed, but it is generally believed that it will be 42% per cent. The last Liberty loan was issued at 44 per cent, but on account of the super-taxes and profit-taxes un- der the war revenue bill it has been found that it would be impossible to float another issue at that low rate. In arriving at the decision to issue short-term notes rather than long- term bonds for the Victory loan, Sec- retary Glass says he has done so be- cause he believes the notes for short term will be maintained at par with more facility than would bonds of longer maturity. Secretary Glass appeals to the peo- ple to support the loan in the same patriotic manner in which the pre- vious Liberty loans were supported. Unless people generally subscribe, he says, the burden of subscription will fall upon the banks, and in his opinion, this would be a misfortune. ELSIE FERGUSON, WALTHALL, STONE, AT VILLAGE THEATER A trio of stars will twinkle on the screen at the Village theater next week. FElsie Ferguson will lead the | week's bill in "The Marriage Price" said to be the best of her cinema presentations. Wednesday and Thursdays head- line attraction is "False Faces" star- ring Henry B. Walthall, one of film- | dom's stellar emotional actors. Fred Stone will appear over the) week-end in the widely known "Johnny Get Your Gun" film version. He will perform his celebrated "Danse Poetique" the best known acrobatic dance. He also does some startling circus stunts remindful of the days of his tent performances. New Trier Sport Notes FEATHERS WON'T STOP, WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT The featherweights have not been beaten this season and at present it | seems as though they will remain un- | defeated. The boys are all confident of winning the championship in their class. pra To show their general superiority they went out to Harvey last Satur- day morning and walloped Thornton to the tune of 21 to 12. The feature of the game was the playing of Webber and Mitchell. The latter scored 11 points but Webber was up against a player twice his size and heavy enough to have made the heavyweight team easily. He held his opponent to one basket. Critics are predicting these two boys will be stars within two years. New Trier rooters should come out Friday evening to the school and see for themselves why the feather- weights will win the flag. They are going to meet the crack team from Oak Park, and a close battle 1s ex- pected. The team has three more games to play besides the one this week. They will next meet La Grange at La Grange, Oak Park at Oak Park, and Thornton at New Trier. Lightweights vs. La Grange The lightweights will play La Grange at New Trier Friday evening when the feathers meet Oak Park. Games will start promptly at 7 45. New Trier Goes to Evanston The heavyweights will go to Ev- anston Saturday afternoon to play a second division game. "As the two teams played rather even at New Trier several weeks ago a close game is expected. New Trier Loses Two Morton: High beat New Trier heavies 19 to 16 in a rough game Fri- day evening.
