WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 1919 i 5 Economy and Power In Stephens Engine The heat created by exploding gasoline vapor which 'has been com- pressed within the cylinder prodnuce~ power. In the Stephens perfected overhead-valve engine gasolin~ vapor from the carburetor is drawn through a short intake manifold lo- cated in the interior of the cylinder head, where it comes in contact with the "hot spot." This wall of metal is kept at constant high heat by ex- haust gases from the two center cyl- inders. Broken up and superheated by this contact with the "hot spot" the vapor which, bzing surrounded by heat. maintains the high temperafure of the gas and all the vapor enters the combustion chamber of the cylinder, properly heated for perfect com- bustion. The longest travel of vapor in the Stephens is ten and one- half inches. The extra large valves, one-half the size of the cylinder bore, insure a full charge of vapor enter- ing the cylinders and a complete clean out of burned gases. The Stephens is a 'perfect cylinder charg- ine machine. : This combination of the features of heating the gas vapor and the extra large valve sizes insures for the Stephens Salient Six engine fuel economy and' great power.
