The route was marked in perfect condition from the Indiana line to the Will county line when the army convoy crossed the state. From the Will county line west the marking of the detour roads around construction under way on the Lincoln highway was accomplish- ed by H. C. Ostermann, vice president and field secretary of the Lincoln Highway association; who is pro- ceeding in advance of the trucks. the holders of Victory Libertv bonds Habit of Dedsios was given out this week by thé Fed- eral Reserve Bank of Chicago. The Victory notes differed from the pre- vious issues ef the Liberty honds by having an interest coupon attached. Because of the old interest date and to avoid delay in the issuance of the interest checks a coupon was attach- ed #0 the Victory notes for the in- terest from May 20 to December 15. The interest for all sncceedimg per- ieds are paid by check. In previous issues of the Liberty bends all in- terest was paid by check. So the|" Federal Reserve Bank has called at- tenion to the fact of the odd inter- est period coupon, which may not be understood by the owners of Vic- tory notes. It is possible for wun- scrupulous persons, it was pointed out, to cut off this coupon and the holder of the bond might not dis- selves. KRRACe. New Burglar Alarm sive. It makes a noise, turns on and preventing its success. Most people who have succeeded in any direction of activity can trace the measure of their success to the habit of declining things for them- One of the greatest tempta- tioms we have is to confine in others. By yielding to it we not only become a nuisance to our friends but keep on lowering owr own powers of resist- A burglar should have a hard time to "get by" the new alarm which is recommended as simple and inexpen- light, and registers the time of the burglar's attempt, as well as delaying route would be thoroughly and per- fectly marked. Word was sent out from headquarters of the Lincoln Highway association to all state, county and local consuls urging that immediate attention be given to re- freshing the markers where these were painted on poles, as is the case as far west as Omaha, Neb. Immediate efforts were undertaken all along the line to put the marking in the best possible shape. In Illi- nois quite a ceremony was made of this remarking. Starting at Aurora, Charles Townsend, representing the road boosters, and members of the a | Lincoln Highway association and Au- i Eis SRR lo BES EE Rl Sl ALL WASHING MACHINES cover tlie loss of the first interest on his bond until he had received the checks for the other periods. "We thimk this warning is due the public," said an official of the Fed- eral Reserve Bank. "The Treasury Department found it mecessary on account of the edd imterest period of the Victory motes to attach a ceu- pon covering the imterest from May 2 to December 15. Another reasom for this was to avoid delay in the issuance of checks for the interest periods. All but the first imterest is paid by checks. But as no other issues of the Liberty bonds have had such a coupon attached, owners of Victory notes might overlook it and there is a chance of it being cut off by unscrupulous persons, thus de- priving the rightful owner of the in- terest of the first period. This cou- pon, of course, is only attached to registered bonds. There is no way of preventing payment on these cou- pons, so for that reason the bank feels the public should be acquainted with the facts."
