4 North Shore Clubs =. by Ruth Risley x } ONDAY marked the opening of the annual Red Cross Cam-| paign. The week is to be a busy one for Red Cross officials | and supporters. Five thousand women ail over the country | are seeking to enroll a half million memberships for the! coming year, and in addition to the campaign for memberships, a final war fund drive for one million dollars is being carried on. This great drive for "dollar patriotism" which is taking place all over the country is urgently needed by the national organization | to complete the relief, construction and other unfinished work over- | seas, as well as for aid to returned soldiers. The home service de- |! partment is continuing the work begun overseas, as well as for aid to returned soldiers, and the home nursing department which is teaching the mothers and housewives of the country how to care for the sick, are some of the branches which this campaign will aid. : Mrs. Harry I. Williams has accepted the chairmanship for Win- netka and will be assisted by a committee of the following women : Mesdames Arthur Dean, James G. Weart, Gustav Haas, Leon J. Longini, Mabel R. Windes, Fred B. Thomas, Laird Bell, J. R. Fletch- er, Forbes Cadenhead, H. A. deWindt, Lawrence M. Stein, George Massey, Raymond Hardenberg. Mr. William Whitacker will also assist the committee. &- On Thursday afternoon week, the meeting of the Winnetka Woman's club will be in charge of. the Philanthropy department, and a most interesting program concerning | "Our Neighborirg Philanthropies"! will be given. The speakers of the, afternoon inciude Miss Mary Garrett-| son, of the Winnetka Relief and Aid society; Mrs. Victor Sanborn, of the Grass Point Child Welfare station; Mrs. R. E. Parnell, who will tell of the work at Grove House, Evanston; cand Mrs. Willis H. Hutson; and to the and Miss Clow, of Arden Shore. Mrs. | Lyman T. Walker is chairman of] the Philanthopy department, and: her committee includes Mesdames! Lowell Copeland, H. A. deWindt,! Victor Elting and John W. Scott. The hostesses will be Mrs. Charles E.| Butler, Mrs. Benjamin K. Smith, Mrs. George E. Orr and Mrs. Louis | M. Beale. i The plays, by Mrs. Gertrude Kiper, | which were to have been presented at this time, have been postponed until January 22, 1920. , The regular meeting of the Parent-' Teacher association of the Logan | school of Wilmette, will be held Monday afternoon, November 10, at 3 o'clock. Miss Mary Bartelme of | the Juvenile Court will be the speak-! cr of the afternoon. Mrs. Winifred Seaver will sing. One hundred and fifty members of the Wilmette Woman's club were in attendance at the monthly luncheon | and business meeting held on Wel- nesday at the clubhouse. Mrs. Ed- ward Anderson, and her cemmittee including Mesdames Jercy H. Arden, Thomas Banning, Jr., J. S. Bridees, George H. Duncan, Gordon C. Jeff- rey, William J. King, Richard Mul- vey, T. J. Moreau, James Nye Mac- alister, Ralph W. Moody, Alexander Nelson, W. W. Norton, J. Beniamin Ott, Fred S. Rice, Holmes A. Shep- lage of next; hard Edwin M. Stafford, Howard E. Warner, and Myron H. West, were in charge of the luncheon. Imme- diately following was a most inter- esting talk on art, by Frank C. Pey- roud, the famous French artist. This was followed by the business meet- ing which consisted mainly of re- ports by the chairmen of the various committees, and by the delegates to the Federation meeting at Peoria last June, Mrs. Donald M.' Gallie Tenth District meeting held Tues- day at the Ravenswood Methodist church, Mrs. John Boddie and Mrs. George F. Glute. Mrs. Theodore Breyer has resign- ed from the chairmanship of the Economy Shop, and Mrs. Charles A. Wanner, 629 Central avenue, was named as the new chairman. In or- der that the chairman can bring about the desired results, it is neces- sary to have the co-operation of every club woman. Articles of every sort are needed at the Shop. Any- thing will sell. An all-day meeting of the Philan- thropy department is being held to- day in the clubrooms, «Sewing on articles for the Economy Shop is being done. . At present the Community House committees are contemplating the formal opening of the Community House to take place shortly after Thanksgiving. Fven at the present time there are several clubs holding meetings on the various days and evenings of the week. On Friday evenings, the whole house is turned over to the Wilmette Boys' club, which has'a membership of eighty- five. A few of the men in the Vil- have given their services on this evening.
