Seventy thou- sand young men taken from life in their very prime is a sad experience for a hation, and America mourns her soldier dead with a sincere sense of heavy loss. For about eighteen months men in the American uniform were brought to face the German guns. Everytliing that cotild be done to make them safe in } their dangerous work was done, bajt seventy thousand of them paid with their lives for the uphold- ing of the national honor and the salvation of the world from the spirit | that threw Europe into the tumult of | war. They gave cenerously, glad tol serve their country and to die that the future might be made safe for those who should come after them.
