The three men arrested--John Ruschli, Jacob Steinbuck and George Mellison, all of Evanston--were ap- prehended this week and the two former have been held over to the grand jury under $2,000 bonds. The case of Mellison will be heard the first part of next week by Justice D. M. Mickey of Wilmete. These men, with the exception of Mellison, who is believed to be a Jrovice at the interesting art of burglary, are believed to form the nucleus of the gang which has raid- ed the liquor stores of families in Glencoe, Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenil- worth and Evanston. Of the other members of the gang--Walter (Dutch) Schumacker and William (Shrimp) Gidd have fled from the vicinity, and Peter (Hard-boiled) Smith has been apprehended recently by the Evanston police. The three men were arrested fol- lowing the theft early Saturday morning of choice wines from the home of Charles V. Burghart, 108 After they were captured by the Evanston police, and after a confession from Mellison had been obtained, they were turned over to the Wilmette authorities, who notified the police of the other villages. HORSE AND MOTOR Even though it may be true that the motor-driven vehicle has begun to put the farm horse "on the run," there is no evidence that he has de- veloped much speed, and his total value still compares favorable with other classes of farm animals. On January 1, 1920, the Bureua of Crop Estimates of the United States De- partment of Agriculture estimated the total value of horses on farms in this country at $1993,000,000, or just a little below the value of milk cows.
