SENATE IS VETERAN OF THE WORLD WAR Illinois is offered the services of a veteran of the World War to rep- resent the state in the United States senate in the candidacy at the Re- publican primaries of Tuesday, Sep- tember 15, of Burnett M. Chiperfield of Canton, Ill. Mr. Chiperfield was born in Dover, Bureau County, Ill., and was educat- ed in the schools of the state. He is a trial lawyer by profession and first came prominently before the public as city attorney of Canton. Later he was States Attorney of Fulton County. In his legal activ-! ities Mr. Chiperfield has been pres- ident of the State's Attorneys asso- ciation of Illinois and president of the American Society of Military Law. He is a member of the Illinois Bar association and the American Bar association. He was a member of the Illinois Legislature for 8 years, displaying keen interest in agricultural, educa- | tional, humanitarian measures and | laws looking toward improvement of labor conditions. He was a Congressman at large | from Illinois in the House of Rep- resentatives. In 1917 and at the outbreak of the war he was a candidate for nomina- tion for United States Senator. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel for his splendid services in that department of the service. Following the Armistice Lieut. Col. Chiperfield was ordered to Germany with the Army of Occupation, at- tached to the 3rd Army Corps. Here again he rendered exceptional serv- ice to his country and was the re- cipient of numerous citations com- ing from General Pershing and other army leaders. He received his hon- orable discharge in 1919. He is a member of the American Legion Post No. 16.
