WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1920 FIFTH GRADE PUPIL WINS ALTSCHUL GARDEN PRIZE Jack Leadroot Winner of Frst Prize in Annual Award of Altschul : Memorial Garden Fund = Prizes for the best school gardens were awarded in the Winnetka Public schools from the Charles D. Altschul Memorial Garden Fund this week. The first prize of $5 was won by Jack Leadroot, fifth grade, Horace Mann school. The second prize of $3 was won by Paul Jackett, in the sixth grade of the Skokie school. The three prizes of $2 each were won by Rich- ard Houren, John Barrenbrugge and Paul Runnfeldt. The first two are pupils in the Horace Mann school. Paul Runnfeldt is a freshman at the New Trier High school. The prizes were awarded by Superintendent Washburne on the recommendation of Harry P. Clarke, superintendent of playgrounds and school gardens. The fund from which the prizes are contributed was made by a num- ber of friends of the late Charles D. Altschul, who felt that in this way his memory and. the memory of his interest in school garden could be best preserved. The fund will here- after provide for ten prizes instead of five. The presentation of the prizes was made at an assembly of all the pupils in the Horace Mann and Skokie VILLAGE OF WINNETKA. SPECIAL ASSESSMENT NOTICE. In the Superior Court of Cook County, Illinois. D. 1919, and which special assessment proceeding was known as General Number 351468 in the Superior Court of Cook County, Illinois, the or- dinance for the same being on file in the office of the Village Clerk of said village, and the said village having ap- plied to the Superior Court of Cook County, Illinois, for a supplemental special assessment to pay the esti- mated deficiency in the cost of the work and interest of said local im- provement, according to the benefits and a supplemental special assessment therefor having been made and re- turned to said Court, General Number 360762, the final hearing thereon will be held on the third day of January, A. D. 1921, or as soon thereafter as the business of the said Court will permit.
