In 1914 he was candidate for County Treasurer. In 1912 he was elected Republican Committeeman of the 5th ward, and has been twice re-elected. Since 1916 he has been member of the Board of Review. He is member of several ! clubs and actively interested in ath- letics. Prominent Lecturer. And now to the subject of taxes. Mr. Litsinger in 1921 delivered more than 100 tax talks before Church, civic, and social organizations, The following quotation from one of his tax talks throws light on Mr. Lits- inger himself. "The Board of Review is the supreme court of the taxpayer. It is-the department to which any taxpayer who thinks that he has been unjustly assessed may appeal. The reviewers act impartially and protect the property owner as well as the tax assessing bodies. Their work is to adjust excessive or low valuations and get after the tax dodgers. During my six years' service on the board there have been no charges of favorit- ism and no whispers of tax scandals. I believe that the experience of six vears is a valuable argument in favor of my candidacy. "If I am re-elected I shall continue my efforts to hold down tax values, especially on small homes. I shall also advocate reduction of tax rates so as to force the expense of taxation down to the same level as private business enterprises." JOB FOR A HERO Capt. Charles Ainsleigh; skipper of a coal barge in 1918, was the only American wounded off the coast by enemy fire. He was hit by a shell from a submarine while his small son stood on deck and waved an American flag. Jobless for almost a year, Ains- leigh, through the American Legion, has landed a position as watchman at the State House in Boston, Mass. TRUE AMERICANIZATION It took a small Jewish girl and a little maid from Italy to win first and second prizes for the best essays on "Our Greatest American." Here is the best advice that we can give the residents of Evanston who contemplate any sort of landscape work this spring: Since the planting season is not far off, consider what changes, or designing of new development, you wish to carry out this coming season. Do this now, because an early decision means ample time for a conscientious study of your problem, and an excellent choice from the nurseries, which is impossible if you delay too long. By consulting us now you are assured of your planting being in the ground at the proper time, the result of which is a and a profusion of colorful blossoms the vigorous growth, first season. In answer to a questionnaire sent out to several hundred farmers in De- Kalb county, the average opinion showed a recommendation of $52.93 a month for married farm hands and $34.45 for single employes. Both figures include board and living quar- ters. It is expected that county farm bureaus in the state will hold meet- ings this spring to discuss the subject.
