Impressive Ceremonies Hon- or Mrs. Julia W. Brass 'The committee on historical places, monuments and relics, Chicago Chap- ter, Daughters of the American Revo- lution, of which Mrs. John Orson Bar- ber is chairman, accompanied by Mrs. Charles E. Herrick, regent; Mrs. W. A. Meyer, vice-regent, and other mem- bers of the chapter, went to Crown Point, Ind., last week, Wednesday, in automobiles. After an excellent dinner at the Commercia! Hotel, and, incidentally, the last dinner to be given in this eighty-one year old structure, which is being replaced by a large modern hotel, the party rode to the cemetery and unveiled the official D. A. R. bronze marker for 'real daughters" (which had been placed on the monu- ment of Mrs. Julia Watkins Brass, the seventh child of the second marriage of Oliver Watkins, a soldier must be called for within three weeks of the Revolutionary war. Mrs. Brass was a member of the Chicago Chapter. Dr. L. A. Salisbury, her grandson, and many of her old-time friends, in Crown Point, were present. The ceremony, in charge of Mrs. Barber, was beautiful and impressive. There were appropriate songs by Mrs. Ethel Cornell, which followed the Pledge to the Flag. Mrs. Frederick Knapp read an original poem written for the occasion. Mrs. May Brevoort Perkins, Mrs. Khapp and Mrs. Rena Hopkins Tuthill, whose great-grand- father, Stephens Hopkins, was a sign- er of the Declaration of Independence, | and Mrs. Barber read portions of the romantic history of Mrs. Brass, Mrs. Barber read an original poem and at the proper moment, during its reading, Dr. Salisbury, the grandson, drew aside the American Flag. The Regent, Mrs. Herrick, led in repeating the Lord's Prayer.
