PEE WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JULY 15, 1922 WATCH YOUR LIGHTS' PETERSON'S WARNING Eleven speeders were given slips by the police last week requesting them to appear in court. Five drivers were arrested for parking and driving cars without lights. Several of the cases have not yet been tried. "Cars driven without lights or left on the side of the streets unlighted are a menace to traffic," stated Chief Peterson this week. "In case of acci- dent, the owner of an unlighted car is at a great disadvantage in a law suit, for the blame usually falls upon the car without lights. A little care taken to attend to the lights is worth while in every case." Those fined for speeding were: William Harvey, Lake Forest, $10 and costs; Victor Fellskeg, Chicago, $6 and costs; Oscar Runin, Milwaukee, $8 and costs; Walter Wehrein, Chicago, $10 and costs; Oscar Schild, Wauke- gan, $12 and costs; Charles Merrill, Hubbards Woods, $15 and costs. Fines for "lights" violations are now $56 in Judge Nelson's court. M. R. Leonard, Chicago, Laurence Flaherty, Glencoe and E. IL. Byfield, Hubbards Woods, were fined $5 each, on this charge. Miss Julia Ulbricht of Elm street, left last Saturday to spend two weeks in camp at Lake Geneva. ---- Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Moses and son, Jack, 840 Linden avenue, left Saturday last for an extended trip in California. We Insist, This is Not a Ford Car Advertisement H. E. "Mac" McNeal, 925 Elm street, performed some movie gymnastics early Monday mecrning when he was summoned betimes from slumber by a persistent prodding of the front door bell. Bruce C. Douglas of Buffalo, N. Y., was the innocent cause of McNeal's temporary demise. Bruce came to the village to spend a few weeks at the McNeal residence. Mrs. McNeal, his sister, had asked him some time ago to spend a few weeks in Winnetka and Bruce averred as how he would if he had to walk all the 580 miles. This he elected to do, leaving Buffalo last Saturday morning at sun-up. Togged in the latest hiking regalia, he was given a lift in his father's huge limousine to the outskirts of the east- ern city. Scarcely had James, the chauffeur, turned back to the cityward, when Bruce was invited to join a party of Fordsters westward bound. This brought him to Cleveland. There he came upon another tourist party go- ing a bit further west. In fact, Bruce secured a lift wherever he chose to alight, with the result that he walked only two miles over the entire dis- tance between Buifalo and Winnetka, and he was safely lodged in the Mec- Neal home early Monday morning, mm-- art m-- Es D. i Braun Bros. While the police of Evanston and Wilmette are detailing men to recover stolen bicycles and are keeping a spe- cial watch for these thefts, Chief Peterson, of Winnetka, is having a different sort of trouble with bicycles. Storerooms and other available space about the Village hall are crowded with bicycles which the patrolmen have found on the streets and brought to the station. Only one p-- -- theft has been reported here in the last two weeks while fourteen aban- doned wheels have been brought in. Most of these were identified by the owners who declared they had "simply forgotten" them. What is more, the wheels which are reposing about the premises do not "check" in description with those stolen in other towns. The chief is unable to figure why the supply ex- ceeds the demand in Winnetka. Burglars Secure $1,000 Haul in Blossom Home Burglars entered the home of George W. Blossom, 955 Green Bay road, early Monday morning and es- caped with valuables worth approxi- mately $1,000, according to the police. Entrance was gained through a base- ment window.
