QUAKERS WILL WET IRA CONLAV Many Will Attend Sessions at Richmond, Ind. Richmond, Ind.-- Quakers from all parts of the United States and Eng- land will have Richmond as their goal this summer and fall. Four great gatherings of Friends, two of which are held here anually, one of which is held but once each flve years and the other but once each four years, will be the cynosure of all eyes of Quakerdom this year. Greatest of all sessions will be that of the Five Years Meeting of Friends .in America, the governing body of those of the orthodox faith, which will be held from September 5 to Septem- ber 12. Each of the thirteen yearly meetings in America and Canada is permitted to send six official delegates regardless of the membership of the meeting. One delegate for each 2,000 members over a given quota is also allowed. Information from officials of the Five Years Meeting, whose offices are here, indicate that between 500 and 600 Friends will be present for this parent conference. Besides the most promi- nent members of the denomination in America, John Henry Barlow, former clerk of London Yearly Meeting and presiding clerk at the All Friends Conference held in London in 1920, will be present for an address. He will be accompanied by his wife. It isn't that the French "bonne" gets much money for her long days of hard work. It is that money is not worth so much these days as food and lodging, which a reasonable amount of money no longer will buy. A French stenographer earns, after about a year as a '"debutante"-- the word is strange to American ears used to this sense--about $50 a month, out of which she must pay, according to La Presse, $12 for a room, $27 for food, $5 for clothes, $1.50 for carfare, $2 for heat, $1.50 for laundry and incidental expenses, $2. The total, pitiully little even from French stand- ards, amounts nevertheless to more than the amount received, or $55.
