ERI Ae AE BER EL TELS EHR EIT STORY AT CHURCH C. F. Jackman Explains Need of Great Relief Unit The officers of the Winnetka Con- gregrational church believe it the plain duty of all to rally to the sup- port of the Near East Relief work in 'a time of great emergency and have arranged to have C. F. Jackman tell its story at the 11 o'clock services tomorrow morning. Mr. Jackman is an attorney who has recently been traveling in the Near East and has been in all the places which, because of recent military and political events, are now on the front pages of our newspapers, and can give accurate and vivid information of this world crisis such as few could sup- ply. Never was a great humanitarian institution faced with a stronger ap- peal than that which confronts the "Near East Relief" today. Never was a great relief organization better or- ganized to respond to the appeal than is the Near East. Incorporated by Act of Congress, having on its nation- al committee such men as William H. Taft, Charles Evans Hughes, Henry Morganthau, and Elihu Root, posses- sed of a trained corps of workers, in- spired and inspiring by reason of good work already done, the Near East Relief appeals again to the public for help to meet the moumental needs created by the present political up- heaval as the Turk once more pushes into Europe. The organization has an enviable record of tact and sagacity. It has kept itself free from all poli- tical meddling, and won the confidence of all by the efficiency of its care of over 100,000 children in nearly 200 orphanages. Such tragic events as the destruc- tion of Smyrna have increased its responsibilities many fold. BUILDING PERMITS AT $95,000 MARK IN WEEK Permits for the construction of buildings with a combined estimated cost of more than $95,000 were grant- ed at the village hall during the past week. The largest construction contem- plated is the $55,000 addition to the Country Day school, work on which has already begun. The next largest permit was granted to Frank G. Lane to build a two-story brick veneer residence at 159 Fupller Lane. The estimated cost of the residence is $16,000. At 1034 Starr street, H. S. Marshall wil lerect a $15,000 two-story brick house with a garage atatched. Another permit was granted to Mrs. Anna M. Yerkes to build a $10,000 residence at 1422 Scott avenue. Permits were also granted to Albert Benz and G. M. Adams for the constructon of private garages.
