- WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1922 EXPERTS MARVEL AT NEW POWER STATION Public Service Builds Wau- kegan Plant Construction work on the Public Service company's new electric gener- ating staton at Waukegan is under way. Managers of the company expect it will proceed rapidly and that dis- tribution of current from the first unit to be installed will begin next fall. Much interest in this huge plant, which is to be the largest in the west outside of Chicago, exists in electric circles throughout the country. In manufacturing circles generally it is realized that the plant will be able to supply a vast amount of electric power and this is fully understood as a highly important advantage to Wau- kegan since modern factories make great use of electric motor drive. Commended by Experts The railroad facilities of Waukegan --the city is included in the Chicago | jy switching district and it has access to trunk lines of railroads reaching every part of the country--are also understood together with the facts of its location on Lake Michigan with its harbor and its water supply. It is predicted that Waukegan will see new manufacturing industries added to those now in the city. The plant has been written up and illustrated in more than one hundred newspapers and journals of national circulation. A large model of it as it will appear when completed is on exhibition in a window of the Edison Building in Chicago. New Sub-Station The Public Service Company has just put in operation an outdoor sub- station of the most modern type at Lake Bluff. It presents a novel ap- pearance with its steel frame work. The station will have an important function in raising the voltage on what is known as the "north loop" of the company's system, where it is to be raised from 20,000 to 30,000 volts. It will facilitate the general efficiency of the service to the public and like- wise the job of distributing electric energy throughout the territory in which it is located.
