He can teach the white man many lessons in patience, kindliness, faithfulness and skill. The Eskimo never displays temper. 1t is a weakness to show anger, and the white man who gets along best with the Eskimo is the man who never displays a bad disposition. If an Es- kimo displays temper, he is danger- ous--he has run amuck. He is a stoic and can stand a tre- mendous amount of pain. Cuts and wounds are nothing to him, but let him get an internal illness or fever, and it attacks him mentally. He gives up and dies. Measles is fatal to an Eskimo. M.. | CARR FIGHTS TAX SHARKS County Treasurer in vigorous cam- paign to destroy those who fatten upon delinquents P. J. CARR County Treasurer P. J. Carr's vigorous campaign against the tax sharks that fatten upon poor people tem- porarily unable to pay their taxes is meeting warm approval throughout Chicago and Cook County. The County Treasurer has nothing at all to do with levying or spending taxes and he is not responsible for the present enormous increase in taxes. His job is to collect the money and to handle it in such a way that it will earn a satisfactory rate of interest for the people. This he has done and in doing it he has broken all records. The law says that when property owners fail to pay their taxes the county treasurer must sell these taxes. He is obliged to do this under penalty of a fine or a jail sentence. The taxes are bought in by the sharks who are notori- ous for their rapacity and cruelty toward delinquents. County Treasurer Carr demands that these people be driven out of business and he promises that, if elected, he will use whatever influence he may have with the next legislature to procure the passage of a law that will destroy them forever.
