6 cYPHONY CONCERT IT NEW THER NOL. Orchestral Association Now Permanent Body Wednesday evening, November 15, will witness the opening of a new epoch in community musical en- deavor in New Trier Township. Everything is in readiness for the first of the series of monthly concerts to be held in the auditorium of the high school at Indian Hill under the aus- pices of the newly organized New Trier Township Orchestral associ- ation. The entire series of concerts has been financed. A permanent or- ganization for years to come has been effected. The tour co-operating vil- lages of Glencoe, Winnetka, Kenil- worth and Wilmette await with inter- est the formal opening. Brueckner Is Soloist Perhaps of greatest importance, aside from the excellent character of the program and the fact that Carl Brueckner, the celebrated cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will be the soloist on opening night, is the decision of the association to increase the number of musicians who will appear at all concerts. When the contract was made with Conductor George Dasch and the Little Sym: phony of Chicage, it was not hoped that the association could afford to secure more than 25 artists for each night. This number has now been definitely increased to 33 men. This will make for a much better balance of parts and greater tonal volume, and the management hopes to swell the number to that of a full grand symphony orchestra once before the season is over. If this is accomplished it is possible that one of the great symphonies may be rendered in its en- tirety. Township-Wide Interest From a community social point of view these concerts will offer some- thing wholly novel in north shore suburban life. Heretofore the four villages have known each other essen- tially as villages and not as personal friends. The committee has planned to take advantage of the intermission between the two sections of the pro- gram to throw open the large-mess hall of the high schiool which adjoins the auditorum ~.d thus make possible a warm and friendly social contact of the thousand concert-goers who have been fortunate enough to have a part in this new artistic enterprise. At the meeting of the executive committee, held last Tuesday evening, reports of chairmen from the four villages indicated that there might be a few available seats for sale at the tox office on the night of the first con- cert, although with some of the quotas oversold it is possible that the entire capacity of the auditorium will go to season subscribers only. Music lovers are warned to get immediate posses: sion of tickets if they do not wish to be disappointed. The drug stores of all villages can give information. The concerts will begin at 8 o'clock, and following the custom at the Chi- cago Symphony Orchestra concerts, late comers will be seated only be tween numbers. Following is the first program: Evanston Arcanum Baseball Nine Trounces Local Crew Evanston council, Royal Arcanum, sent its Indoor baseball nine to Win- netka Wednesday evening and the boys from the lower north shore trimmed the Winnetka Arcanian crew 6 to 4. The score was four-all up to the sixth frame with Carlson, the Evans- ton hurler, and Bailey for the locals casting to perfection. Clay, of Evans- ton, was the batting hero with a trio of safe blows to his credit. The same teams meet at Commu- nity House next Wednesday evening with batteries: Evanston: Carlson and Murphy; Winnetka: Bailey and Eckart. Don't Forget That Bunco Party--Arcanum Warning | "Don't forget about that bunco party and dance to be given by the Winnetka council, Royal Arcanum, at Community House on the evening of Thursday, November 28." That is the warning note issued this week by members of the local council to all fun-seekersg in the vil- lage. Refreshments will be served and the affair is open to the general public. Tractor Replaces Strong Arm in Stringing Electric Wires The customary practice of string- ing out electric light wire preliminary to their erection on poles refers the operation to divers muscular linemen. The Public Service company has made an innovation. It employs in such work a small tractor. Wires are hitched to its after works and away it goes dragging them after it what- ever the nature of the ground.
