WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1922 WHY I ADVERTISE IN THE TALK "I fully believe the Winnetka Week- ly Talk is one of the livest suburban publications around Chicago. It is not only full of interesting reading matter, but has an abundance of 'snap' and 'pep' which naturally forces a good, big circulation. "For these reasons, as an adevrtis- ing medium, it is bound to 'cash in' for the advertiser." : That is J. D. Mercer's opinion of the Talk, coupled with his reasons J. D. Mercer for employing these columns to ad- vertise the merchandise offered by the Hubbard Woods Lumber and Coal company, of which he is manager. The firm has been one of the most consistent advertisers in the Talk and Mr. Mercer's statement is in reply to the question put by the editor, "Why Do You Advertise In the Talk?" Each week, the editor asks a Talk advertiser that single question. The response in each instance is set forth in the Talk. Watch for the next statement! WINNETKA Houren Advises Care Concerning Brush Fires In commenting on the number of brush fires with which the Fire depart- ment has had to contend this season, Chief G. M. Houren this week asked that residents pay strict attention to fire rules and regulations. "People who start fires to burn off grass or brush, and who intend to keep a careful watch of the fires they start, should notify the Fire depart- ment. Such action will make it un- necessary for the department to an- swer calls coming form that neigh- borhood concerning the fire in ques- tion," said the chief. Chief Houren also pointed out that it was against the law for people to burn rubbish or other material uniess the material to be burned was placed in the proper incinerator provided with a cover which will prevent es- cape of burning embers.
