4 ICT TOSTANP OUT BOGUS SOLICITORS New Trier Commercial Asso- ciation Takes Steps to Reg- ulate Charity Giving CHECK ENTERPRISES Solicitors .Must Have Iden- tification Cards Solicitors for charity, magazine subscriptions, and speciality advertis- ing such as pamphlets, booklets and other similar mediums which do not come under the category of recog- nized local advertising mediums, must be provided with identification and endorsement by the New Trier Commercial association if they would "do business" with local merchants, according to a plan worked out this week by the New Trier Commercial association. Adopt Resolutions . Members of the association adopted resolutions Monday at a regular meet- ing at Wilmette in which it was stipu- lated that every solicitor for charity or other worthy cause, magazine sub- scriptions and advertising for special and temporary mediums, who call at business places and homes in the township, will be asked to furnish identification cards endorsed by the Commercial association. Possession of an identification card will be equiv- alent to a complete endorsement of the honesty and integrity of the solici- tor, but cards are to be obtained only after the association has carefully investigated the record of the golicitor and the enterprise he represents. The association has secured a list of all worthy charities, furnished by the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, and is in a position to make thorough and exhaustive investigations into the character of any enterprise coming to its attention. Check Bogus Solicitor The action of the Commercial as- sociation; follows what has been termed as a "flood of solicitation" in recent weeks and months for aid for all kinds of charitable enterprises. The action represents en endeavor on the part of the merchants to pro- tect themselves .and the residents of the township against bogus solicitors. Recognized charities and bona fide business and advertising projects will receive the hearty endorsement of the association, it is emphasized.
