WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1922 ROS FPLCATION DNS CONGO Winnetka Legion Stands Ready to Help Within the next three weeks the applications' for the state soldiers' bonus will be ready for distribution, it was announced this week at Win- netka Legion Post headquarters. These applications will be in two forms. Form 1, for all ex-service men and women, will be mailed to each legion post in the state. Form 2, for families and heirs of deceased soldiers, are to be secured by communication with the Service Recognition Board at Springfield. The Winnetka Post of the Ameri- can Legion has arranged to serve as a bureau for ex-service men in aid- ing them with the proper filling out of their applications. Application blanks will be available at Legion headquarters in the Winnetka Wom- an's Club. Every effort will be made, also, to assist families and heirs of deceased ex-service men in the mat- . ter of securing and filling out their application blanks. The Winnetka Post, meanwhile, is desirous of aligning every ex-service man in the village with the legion. It is the aim of the post, as emphasized by Commander Irving Odell, to have a 100 per cent membership in the 'Winnetka Legion. The local post is one of the strongest legion units in the state, in point of influence and the diversity of its activities, and has taken the lead in numerous move- ments that have won acclaim in na- tional legion circles. The post is noted for its democratic spirit. IMPROVEMENT ASS'N IN MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN The Village Improvement associa- tion is about to send out its annual appeal for members, in order to pro- vide funds for the work that is going on or being planned. Frank D. Ful- ton is chairman of the Membership committee, John C. Cobb, president of the association, Mrs. Dudley XK. French, secretary, and Mrs. H. I. Woolhiser, treasurer. Membership dues are $2 a person and all resi- dents are eligible and urged by the association to support its objects by joining. The committee on parkways and vacant lots, Mrs. Frederick B. Thom- as, chairman, has recently planted new trees on the parkways at Oak and Linden streets, fronting the pub- lic library. The committee desires residents to report to it any parkways or vacant lots which are untidy or in bad order, so that the proper steps may be taken to rectify the condition.
