WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1922 1 PHOTO DRAMAS THE NEW EVANSTON Clyde E. Elliott, managing director of The New Evanston Theater, has announced the personnel of "The Ev- anston Ensemble," an orchestra of celebrated artists which he is creat- ing for the theatre. Selection of the members of this group is being made by Walter Blau- fuss, composer, orchestra conductor, and distinguished musician, and Mr. Elliott. Mr. Blaufuss and Mr. Elliott were associated some years ago when the musician was director of the or- chestra at Orchestra Hall in Chicago and Mr. Elliott was the manager. Music at the New Evanston Theatre will be under the general direction of Mr. Blaufuss. James Kozak, who has been with Mr. Blaufuss for the last year, will be conductor of the local group. He has been connected with the Rivoli theatre of New York city, as assistant to Hugo Riesenfeldt. Mr. Kozak opened Asher's Roosevelt theatre where he was associated with Mr. Blaufuss for a year. "Others under contract," announces Mr. Elliott, "are the following artists: Ernest Wiley, now a member ot the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; John Zwieful, at present with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Henry Hof- meester, principal cellist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under Eugene Ysaye; Alfred Buelwitz, mem- ber of the New York Symphony Or- chestra for two seasons, with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra for three seasons, and well known in Chi- cago. "It is readily seen that this en- semble is of the very highest artistic value," Mr. Blaufuss reports. "This is absolutely necessary in order that a picture may be properly cued as to the various atmospheric situations and scenes which demand that members of the ensemble be musicians who produce music of the masters az well as music of the day. "We propose to render selections from Tschackowsky, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Beethoven, Herbert, and Wag- ner," he explained. "These are com- posers whom Evanstonians under- stand, appreciate, and demand." "This group will have a class and distinction measuring up to the north shore's ideal," Mr. Elliott added. "Miss Charlotte Allen, recently of Orchestra Hall, will preside at the Wurlitzer grand organ, which is be- ing installed now in the theatre. This organ, purchased at a great expense, the most costly one in any theatre between Chicago and Milwaukee, is of the same type as those in the New McVicker's theatre and the Chicago theatre."
