OCIALNCTIVITIES Marion Blatchford Is Feted Before Wedding FTER a peep into the engagement calendar where Miss Marion Blatchford is listing the affairs to be given for her before her marriage on March 1, one learns that her days are being crowded with going from suburb to suburb and to the city to attend the many parties that are planned for her. The festivities began on Wednes- day of this week. On that day Miss Pauline Rudolph of Winnetka gave a luncheon at the Blackstone hotel after which she took her guests to the theater. On Friday, Mrs. Frank | Blatchford, mother of the bride . | elect, was hostess at a luncheon and bridge. Miss Margaret Mercer, also of Winnetka, will be a luncheon hostess on Saturday, and in the afternoon Miss Catherine Mordock is giving a bridge and kitchen shower at her home on Maple ave- nue. In the evening Mrs. Fitz- Hugh of Lake Forest will entertain at dinner. On Monday afternoon of next week Miss Helen Rushton of Evanston is giving a miscellan- eous shower. Tuesday, Mrs. Earl McCarthy, who was Miss Elizabeth McEwen of Winnetka, is giving an afternoon bridge at her home in Chicago. In the evening Mrs. Lowel Copeland will entertain at bridge at her home in Winnetka. The next day Miss Barbara Nichols will be hostess at a linen shower at her home in Winnetka, and on Thursday evening Dr. and Mrs. Blatchford will be host and hostess at a dinner which will be followed by dancing. On Satur- day, next, the evening of the wedding, Dr. and Mrs. Blatchford will entertain the wedding party at dinner at the Saddle and Cycle club. ins Brien Blatehpord i bi Rags Weil family and Mr. | Two program. Miss Blatchford will become the bride of Lieutenant Albert Gleaves Berry, J, next Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, at Christ church, Winnetka, Rev. E. Ashley Gerhard officiating. Immediate- ly after the ceremony a reception will be held at the Blatchford residence, 605 Arbor Vitae road. Attending Miss Blatchford will be her sister, Miss Elsie Blatch- ford, maid of honor; and Miss Helen Rushton of Evanston, Miss Margaret Mercer of Winnetka, Miss Margaret Forgan of Highland Park, and Miss Virginia Fitz-Hugh of Lake Forest, bridesmaids. Owing to the inability of Lieutenant Berry to communicate with two or three of his friends whom he wishes to serve as ushers, he is unable at the present time to give all the names of the men in the bridal party. Marie Sidenius Zendt, well known to Wilmette and the north shore, hav- ing participated in many local pro- grams is appearing in a recital of songs at the Playhouse on Sunday afternoon, March 2, at 3:30 o'clock, under the direction of F. Sunday, the Kohn attended a birthday dinner given for their mother, Mrs. Johanah Kohn, who was eighty-two years old on that day. The dinner was held in Chicago at the home of Mrs. Weil's sister, Mrs. Al- schuler. There were eighteen present. musicians furnished a musical --O-- A studio musical was Friday evening by Mrs. Brewer's violin and ensemble classes, at the Columbia School of Music. Those taking part were Helen Bell, Elizabeth Sanford, Jane Wilson, Bernice Carl- strand, Ralph Burkhardt, Brewster Adams, T.ois Trusdale, Betty Barber, Betty Maddox, Jean O'Brien, Jane Portis, Francis Copthorne, Antoinette Brown, and Eleanor Cheney. ---- The Walden Road circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Earl Weinstock, 630 Walden road, on Monday after- given last noon, February 25. Mrs. Brooks Moulton will talk on the "World Court." Miss Marie Martin will be at the piano, and Emil Olson will en- tertain with a group of songs. --_-- Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sawyer and family, of 783 TFoxdale avenue, are moving from Winnetka shortly. Busi- ness is taking Mr. Sawyer to the east, for the London Guarantee and Acci- dent company is moving its main of- fices to New York city. --_---- Miss Amy Hagen, daughter of Mrs. Fred J. Hagen, of 1386 Scott avenue. who attends the Sargent school in Boston. is at home with an attack of appendicitis. On Saturday evening, March 1, Miss Grey Simpson De IL.a Mater, daughter of Mrs. Hiram McCullough of Evans- ton, will become the bride of Sydney Clemenson Anderson; Jr., of -Winnet- ka. The marriage services will be read at 8:30 o'clock at the home of the bride, by the Rev. George Craig Stewart. A reception will follow the ceremony. Mrs. Kenneth Clellan, sister of the groom, will be the matron of honor. Mrs. Julian Norris, Miss Marjorie Baker, and Miss Elizabeth McCullough will be the bridesmaids. Jane Grey | Cooley will be the flower girl. John ' Anderson will serve his brother as f best man. --_---- Members of the Winnetka League of Women Voters will make a poll of the entire village, from precinct to precinct. The women are most anx- ious to increase the Winnetka vote for both men and women 25 per cent. The work will be done by block captains, and house-holders are asked to give aid by giving whatever inform- ation they can to the women who will call upon them. Mrs. Walter Benson of Lincoln avenue is the chairman. Fach person will be asked to give a pledge that he will vote at the pri- maries in. April. Only 46.6 per cent of the women in" Illinois voted at the last presidential election. This time it is hoped to get a vote of 9% per cent if possible, at least in Winnetka. 3 wy pa The Play Perading group of the North Shore Theatre guild will meet next Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Aldrich, 1160 Oakley avenue. "Windows" a play written by John Galsworthy, will be read. This group is desirous of hav- ing any Winnetka or Hubbard Woods members of the Guild present at these readings. --0-- The Winnetka Heights circle will have a social afternoon March 11. A card party will be given at the home of Mrs. Walter S. Bemis on Ardsley road. The proceeds from this occas- ion will be used to purchase matrial for the little garments the women make for the Protestant Orphanage. Mrs. Chatham of 1025 Ely road is the circle chairman. --_---- Mrs. George L. Cherry, a well known professional reader, gave a very delightful program at the Valen- tine's dinner given by the Pine Street circle. Mrs. Cherry is never heard tc greater advantage than she is in her character sketches of the southern negro. Her dialect is perfect. --_--Q-- On Thursday, February 21, the Sophomore class of the North Shore Country Day school gave a dance, an affair which is given annually by the Sophomores for all the students of the hich school.
