2 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1924 VOTE AGAINST RAIL SWITCHES Indian Hill Residents Go on Record for Elimination Through Village FAVOR NEW P. O. PLAN Receive Promise of Better Rail Service The residents of south Winnetka went on record Monday night of this week as emphatically opposed to any change in the present switch track facilities in the village which might lead to their relocation in south Win- netka. This action was taken at the reg- ular monthly meeting of the Indian Hill Improvement association, the ses- sion being one of the most largely attended of the year. Village Trustee Tenney was present at the invitation of the officers of the association and gave a very com- plete and interesting exposition of the grade separation plans for the vil- lage, showing why some changes may become necessary under these plans in the present switch track facilities in the village. He stressed the import- ance of an early decision on the point, stating that further progress in the whole separation program is blocked until the problem is settled. Want Switches Eliminated Following Mr. Tenney's talk resolu- tions were offered and unanimously adopted placing the association on record as favoring the complete elim- ination, if possible, of the switch tracks from the village--when the grade separation plan is put into ac- tion and setting forth the unalterable opposition of the association to any move which might lead to relocation of switch tracks in south Winnetka. The fact was strongly stressed in the comments leading to the action, that Winnetka is now and must con- tinue to be primarily a residential community with business and indus- try an incidental factor. That being true, it was pointed out, the residential interests of the community, numerical- ly far in the majority, must be the controlling interests, and any action such as expansion of the industrial area, change or addition within the village to switching area, etc., must be construed as detrimental to the best interests of the willage. Favor Post Office Plan A number of other important busi- ness matters were discussed and ac- tion taken. Resolutions strongly en- dorsing the move to obtain a better post office were passed and the sec- retary of the association instructed to forward them to the local represent- atives in Congress. The Transporta- tion committee reported that it had been in conference with officials of the Chicago and North Western rail- way and obtained from them assur- ances of improvement at an early date in service at Indian Hill. Marywood Girls Defeated by Country Day Quintet On Saturday morning, February 17, the North Shore Girls' team defeated the Marywood girls 12-10. The game was close from the start, the score at the end of the half standing 7-7. Marywood was unfortunate in that they had not been playing by Spauld- ing's Official Rules and so did not understand all the fouls that were called. All decisions were taken in good spirit, however. On the whole, it was an extraordinarily good game, showing the girls of both teams to be slightly deficient in passing and speed. TIME TO PAY THOSE LICENSE FEES--CHIEF Editor's Note: WINNETKA TALK passes on to the residents of the village the accompanying notice from Chief of Police Peterson, relative to payment of vehicle, dog and other license fees now past due. I VILLAGE OF WINNETKA Department of Police Feb. 21, 1924. To the Public: Your attention is called to the pro- visions of the Municipal Code requiring that local vehicle licenses and dog li- censes be renewed on January 1. It is also necessary to require that all dogs be provided with collars with 1924 tags securely attached not later than March 15th. All unlicensed dogs found on the streets after that date will be impounded, and if not redeemed with- in four days thereafter will be disposed of as required by Section 211, Chapter 14 of the Municipal Code. Please co-operate with us by observ- ing the foregoing regulation. Yours very truly, W. M. PETERSON, Chief of Police.
