Jack Holt, Kathlyn Williams, Noah Beery and Billie Dove are featured in the prin- cipal roles. The story is one of Zane Grey's most popular. In screening the film the famous Technicolor process, the same process that was used in the Biblical prologue in "The Ten Commandments," was used. According to Jesse L. Lasky, first vice-president in charge of Paramount production, a special cam- era staff took with it into the desert all of the intricate paraphernalia nec- essary for the photographing of color pictures. "Wanderer of the Wasteland," which will be shown at the New Evanston theatre all next week, is a story of the great American Sahara, when men braved unbelievable hardships in their hunt for gold. The gold rush which brought thousands into the desert--a hunt, from which handfuls returmed successful ; many never returned at all. HOYBURN Mae Murray has the title role in "Mlle. Midnight," which will be shown at the Hoyburn Monday and Tuesday, August 11 and 12. Wednesday and Thursday the Florida coast will be pictured in a delightful story, featur- ing Betty Compson in "Miami." George Arliss, Taylor Holmes and Edith Roberts have the principal roles in "$20 a Week," which will be the attraction at the Hoyburn theatre Fri- day and Saturday, August 15 and 16. Edith Roberts is a native of New York. She began her film career at the age of 13 as a member of the famous Imp Film company which numbered among its players Mary Pickford, Jack Pick- ford, Owen Moore, Thomas H. Ince and many others who have since achieved screen fame. More recently Miss Robedts has been starred in "Saturday Night," "Pawned," "Thorns and Orange Blossoms," "Backbone" "Big Brother." ADELPHI The Adelphi theatre .will have as the attraction for Friday and Satur- day, August 8 and 9, Mae Murray in "Mademoiselle Midnight." Telephone Girl 11 and the Gumps in "A Day of Rest" will round out the program. Jack Holt and Billie Dove are among the principals in "The Wanderer of the Wasteland," which will be shown Sunday and Monday, August 10 and 11. Nilsson and Adolph Menjou in the principal roles. HOWARD Tom Mix proves himself a speed demon in a dress suit, away from the usual togs of the cowpuncher, in his latest production, "The Heart Buster." Many of his tricks are evident in this film but they touched up with the book of etiquet to a little degree. The movement of the story is rapid as in most of the Mix pictures. which keeps the spectators on the alert all the time. "The Heart Buster" comes to the Howard theatre Friday and Saturday, August 8 and O. That famous poem of the gold seek- ers in Alaska, "When Men Were Men" has been changed a bit to suit the tastes of the motion picture audiences. George Babbitt is played by Willard Lewis in the screen adaptation of Sin- clair Lewis' novel, "Babbitt," gives a little more humaness to the panorama of life as seen in the Gopher Prairie district. Glenn Hunter, who played the part of Merton in "Merton of the Movies," the stage version of Harry Leon Wil- son's book, plays the same role in the screen production wheih will be shown at McVickers theatre the week starting Monday, August 11, with Viola Dana opposite Hunter. When the stage play was in Chicago last year at the Blackstone, it was ac- corded one of the most enthusiastic receptions given a play in Chicago. Ramon Novarro, who plays the title role in "The Arab," the Rex Ingram production for Metro which has been playing at McVickers this week, was recently referred to by a reviewer as "The John Barrymore of the screen." This was regarded as rather rough on Barrymore, inasmuch as he has done some motion picture work him- self. But he showed no resentment when he saw Novarro one day in a Hollywood shop. They had never met before but Barrymore held out his hand. When Anne Rose" had its Nichol's "Abie's Irish first . showing in New York, it was doomed to immediate failure.
