WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1924 | ORRINGTON ANNEX IS OPENED FOR OCCUPANCY Completed on schedule time, the Tuxurious 63-apartment Orrington hotel annex at Evanston was formally opened Monday of this week with all apartments, save seven, leased for im- mediate occupancy. A majority of these apartments have been rented to north shore people, the hotel manage- ment stated. Construction on the Orrington An- nex was started on April 12, 1924, un- der the direction of Victor C. Carlson, owner and builder of the Orrington and Library Plaza hotels. The struc- ture represents an investment of ap- proximately $750,000. The Annex is unique in that the apartments are rented unfurnished but with complete hotel service. Every- thing supplied in the best appointed hotels is at the command of the An- nex residents. Included among the features of the Annex is a bungalow playroom, with outdoor pergola, and an open air ver- anda 50 by 16 feet in dimensions. The building contains 30 maids' rooms for families having private maid service. There is also a 36-car garage in direct connection with the building. The Annex contains seven new shops on its Orrington avenue front- age, three of which are already rented. Among the concerns to be located there is the well known Cellini Jewel- ry and Gift shop. The MacLean Beauty parlor will also be located in the building. CHARGE ABANDOMENT Axel Loow, an electrician, who has been living in Winnetka, was arrested by Officer Cummings of the local police on a complaint made by his wife, Thurs- day, he was turned over to the Hyde Park police. Loow is charged with the abandonment of his wife and child in Chicago. U. C. Abel of Winnetka is on a fishing trip at Minocqua, Wisconsin. Tommy Lynch Given Job of Helping War Veterans The name of Thomas J. Lynch, of Winnetka Post No. 10, was not presented to the state convention of the American Legion, this week, for committeemen for the seventh district. Mr. Lynch was in- clined to believe the place would be too great a tax on his time and one which his forestry, or tree surgery, business would not enable him to assume. His arguments along that line prevailed among his hosts of supporters for the position and they desisted. But in another capacity these same friends sent Mr. Lynch home with the bacon. In other words, they put him on the rehabilitation committee, which is one of conspicuous honor, though less exacting in its inroads on the incum- bent's time than that of the district com- mitteeman. The rehabilitation place is one of importance and puts Mr. Lynch in the limelight of state legion affairs. Another Regular Added to Our Fire Department The fire department has been strength- ened by the addition of another full time man, making a total of four regular firemen on the brigade, including Chief G. M. Houren. The new fire-figther is Herman Bucher. Besides the regular men on the department, several volun- teers are always prepared to respond to alarms when needed. This addition to the fire department has been made in accordance with a pro- vision in the annual village budget.
