Such is' the gist of numberless classified] want ads run in the newspapers oi} large cities, proving that thousands of people want to be by themselves in an apartment, but don't want the trouble or expense of furnishing one-- that is, until the pay chzck holds a much larger figure. It is said by peo- ple who make a practice of furnishing flats to rent that they never have a bit of trouble in renting them for 'he flats are snatched up as soon as thy are advertised. It is man's inkorn nature to want a home, but he some- times is pretty timid about starting to acquire the worldly goods, which go 'nto making a home, and so takes a long time before commencing his in- quiry as to what inexpensive furnish- ings can be had. When he does begin his shopping for the cherished home, he and his fiancee, or his bride, or wife of several years' standing, should take a second look at the attractive fiber reed furniture which has prob- ably been shown them. And if he; does a little figuring he can always come to the conclusion that some of these fiber reed furnishings can be used in nearly every room in the house, and the expense doesn't mount up to a great sum after all. FRAMED PHOTOS Portraits--if they are good portraits --are as desirable today as they have ever been. They are beautiful as works of art, and excellent as part of the furnishing of the home. Although few of us can afford to have portraits of members of our fam- ily painted by an artist whose work is worthy, still it is now possible to have portrait-photographs made by photo- eraphers of standing who put into their work much of the human charm and characteristics of the sitter. A photograph of this exceptional kind, enlarged perhaps, and tastefully fram- ed, may well be a most ornamental feature of the wall decorations of a room. In general, however, the fam- ily photographs are better placed in the more intimate rooms of the house --the bedrooms of those to whom they are dear, or the study, rather than in the living room or hall, where we re- ceive our guests.
