2 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1924 CHORAL SOCIETY CALLS SINGERS Venture Sponsored by Im- provement Body BY CHORISTER The Winnetka Choral society is com- posed of a group of North Shore people who sing, and who last year met week- ly. The society is sponsored by the Win- netka Village Improvement association. The Winnetka Woman's club furnishes the society with a comfortable and cen- tral place of meeting, also giving it the use of its fine Steinway concert grand piano This month the society is beginning its second year. Under the guidance of its able conductor, Noble Cain, with his fine accompanist, Erwin Wellenborn, a most exceptional opportunity for choral work is offered to our north shore sing- ers, an opportunity which is only made possible by the financial backing of the Winnetka Village Improvement associa- tion. The society, while sponsored by this Winnetka organization, wishes to ex- tend the privilege of becoming a member to all singers from Winnetka to High- land Park--a real privilege it is too. Bright Prospects At the end of last year's season a con- cert was given which showed the splen- did work Mr. Cain had accomplished, and which proved the possibilities of the group of singers becoming a very ex- cellent festival organization. Such a body would be enthusistically welcomed along the north shore, and would be a great addition to the charm and culture of suburban life. Such a chorus might also be very useful at all civic functions in the villages of our north shore. The society hopes this season to reach a point of importance and prestige with the record enrollment of 150 or 200 members. It should be considered an honor to belong to it, a rare privilege not only for the younger men and wom- en of the community, but for the older groups as well. It is not intended to study only music of the more serious type, which would make the drilling a severe task, but much of the best which may come within the easy range of all. Many selections will be those sparkling happy things of musi- cal form which enrich the lines of those fortunate enough to enjoy what is call- ed "song." Such singing also leads to a fellowship gained in no other way. The society especially invites those to join who have well trained/or even pro- fessional voices, but it also as earnestly solicits membership from those who place their voices in a more amateur class. Invite Young Singers Should the young singers join, they will find that they will add to their musi- cal experience as they have done in no other way. There is no entrance examin- ation, only a very pressing personal in- vitation, and a small membership fee. May we count on you? Mr. Cain is a fine musician and conductor, Mr. Well- enborn an exceptional pianist, and the Choral society is a body of men and women you will enjoy meeting once a week. The hour is 8 o'clock, the eve- ning, Tuesday, at the Winnetka Wom- an's club, corner Oak and Maple streets. Just come! You will need no intro- duction, but some one will see that you get acquainted with the leader and mem- bers. NORTH SHORE GRIDDERS ENJOY PERFECT RECORD The Heavy Lightweight gridders of the North Shore Country Day schoo! have a clear slate of victories to look back upon in their 1924 season. There is a record for you! They sum up the season's accomplishments this way: "Our first game was with the Skokie middleweights. Skokie's team played hard, but was defeated 26-0. Our sec- ond game was with Skokie heavy- weights. They gave us a hard fight, but we came out on top 22-0. Our third and last game was with Kenilworth. Both teams fought hard, and the final count was 12-0 in North Shore's favor. We owe our great success to our coaches, Mr. Smith and Mr. Anderson." North Shore's "Lightweights" (100 pounds and under) had a very success- ful season. All of the games this team played were with Skokie. The first re- sulted in a scoreless tie, both teams showing lack of sufficient practice. In the second game North Shore showed great improvement by running over Skokie with a score of 33 to 0; how- ever, this game was with a lighter Skokie team. The third was with the team which played in the first game. Here the North Shore warriors won by a 13-0 score.
